A3 size poster, photocopied with cartoon drawings of a MTA (Metropolitan Transport Authority) crew member and a passenger who waited 30 mins. for a tram and complaining. MTA crew member explains shortage of crews and blames MTA and Minister Tom Roper (Transport Minister at the time) - mid 1980's. On base of poster is "AUTHORISED BY THE WORKERS AT THE SOUTH MELBOURNE DEPOT". Functional Object - Bankcard plates and envelope, Milldean Press, 1970's mid
831.1 - Aluminium plate cut and stamped with the letters and words "467026 1 / BALLARAT TRAMWAY SO / BALLARAT VIC". Used by the BTPS/BTM in the ANZ Bankcard machine as the ID plate from the late 1970's to July 1998, when replaced by the Commonwealth Bank Machine. Plate salvaged for archive storage. Has two holes and cut outs for location onto machine. 831.2 - Plastic card -with words " ANZ BANK / MERCHANT SUMMARY CARD / CREDIT CARDS" and embossed onto cards is "561057 3011 467026 1 / BALLARAT TRAMWAY SOC / BALLARAT VIC". Words ANZ in the ANZ blue style of the time, rest black printing on white card. 831.3 - Envelope that contained item 831.2 - white envelope used by the BTPS at the time, mid 1970's with handwriting in black ink "Society Bank Card / For Claiming on / To be kept in safe at all times" Envelope has the words in green ink "BALLARAT TRAMWAY PREERVATION SOCIETY LIMITED / BOX 632, P.O., BALLARAT, VICTORIA, 3350 / A voluntary organisation operating the / BALLARAT TOURIST TRAWAY / Botanic Gardens, Ballarat". Black and white photograph, copy of original prints, of SEC Ballarat motorman Fred Heres, supplied by his wife, Mrs. E. May Heres of 11 Flockhart Street, Ballarat. Understood Mr. Heres passed away some time ago, actual date not known. 832.1 - 2 prints - Mr Fred Heres standing in the drivers door of a SEC Bogie tram. Has destination of "Haddon St." The dash canopy lighting fitted, but only the small white strip underneath the lighting.- dates photo to early 1960's. 832.2 - 2 prints - Mr. Fred Heres in uniform, standing by a shed, cap badge No. 26. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. Small horse drawn vehicle crossing in front of the photograph. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has destination board on the front dash of the tram. See Reg. B&W print and scanned images of a coloured postcard lent to the BTM by Mr. Norm DePomeroy, Dec. 1997. Image is an ESCo tram just past the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling east along the north side of Sturt. Steet towing a heavily laden horse tram as a trailer. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tram does not have any destination box above the driver. Possibly summer 1905/1906. Numerous people in the street, some horse drawn vehicles in the photograph. Shows buildings along the south side of Sturt St. and part of the verandah of the building at the NE corner of Doveton St. 1 copy held at 8/98. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Tram has destination of Lydiard St. North. 840.2 - trams 13, 30 and 18 and another single trucker at the depot gates, all showing Depot or Depot via Drummond North destinations - possibly on a Sunday morning. 840.3 - Trams 13 and 30 on the north side of Drummond St. north, with Sturt St. Mansions buildings behind. Yields information and demonstrates aspects about Ballarat's destination rolls used in trams up to 1967 when the rolls were replaced with the opposite colour arrangementDestination roll white lettering on black background used in Ballarat until late 1967, replaced by black letters on white background. Layout of individual destinations follows that shown in K.S.Kings, "Ballarat Tramways" - see image file for copy. Main letters are 150 high. Has a short section of white on the top of the roll and larger section at bottom. On rear of roll, has abbreviated destinations painted in white paint on black gloss paint to enable drivers to locate easier the individual destinations. Badge - SEC pass, Employees Pass badge No. 127, c1950?
Stamped enamelled round brass piece with a hole stamped at the top and ring placed through. Used as a SEC tramways employees pass. Has the SEC logo in the centre, organisational name (State Electricity Commission of Victoria) in white enamelled and outer ring the words "Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways". This was in blue enamel. On rear stamped the number "127" Was issued to Mr. Adam Balloch, carpenter with the SEC depot.
