The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories. This skirt is one of a number of items donated to the Fashion Collection by Dione McIntyre.The McIntyre Collection of clothing and clothing accessories forms one of the largest single donations to our Fashion & Design collection. It includes clothing and clothing accessories worn by four women in the Cohen and McIntyre families across three generations. The items worn by Melbourne architect, and Kew resident, Dione McIntyre date from the 1960s and 1970s, and include evening wear, day wear, hats and shoes. As Dione McIntyre often accompanied her husband, fellow architect Peter McIntyre, to formal events, there are a number of pieces of evening wear among the items. The McIntyre Collection also includes items worn by women of an earlier generation: by Lilian Cohen, Dione McIntyre's mother, and by her mother-in-law, the wife of the architect Robert McIntyre. At the other end of the chronological spectrum are a number of outfits belonging to, worn and donated by Annie McIntyre. These include outfits created by notable late 20th century Australian and/or international fashion designers. The McIntyre Collection is significant historically and artistically as it includes examples of design that demonstrate changing tastes in fashion over an 80-year period. Six Watercolour Drawings. Born Celia Elizabeth Prince in 1930, Celia Rosser began painting Australian wildflowers early in her artistic career. She first began painting Banksias after seeing a Banksia serrata near her home in Orbost, Victoria. She lived in Orbost in the 1960's( her husband had been posted to Orbost High School) where she painted and drew native flowers , in particular, banksias. Her first exhibition was at Leveson Gallery in Melbourne in 1965, and included three watercolours of Banksia species. Two years later she published Wildflowers of Victoria.Celia Elizabeth Rosser (born 1930) is a renowned Australian botanical illustrator, best known for having published The Banksias, a three-volume series of monographs containing watercolour paintings of every Banksia species. She began painting Australian wildflowers early in her artistic career. The badge belonged to Mrs May BALDWIN. Two stars on the badge showed she had two sons in the 2nd A.I.F, Ted & Robert. Ted (short for Edward) is believed to be George Edward BALDWIN No VX120046. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 10.7.1942 age 20 years. On discharge from the Army on 2.4.1946 he was a Pte in the 29/46th Aust Infantry Battalion. Robert is believed to be Walter Robert BALDWIN No VX55835. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 14.5.1941 age 20 years. He was in the 2/29th Batt and is listed in their history as being in D Coy. He was taken POW and is listed as died while a POW on 27.5.1943. Refer 1895.Badge, metal, "To the Women of Australia". This photograph shows a scene from the first time Allan Charles Quinn attended Carnival in Rio. Although having made several trips to South America previously, he had not experienced Carnival before. The photograph is also complemented by a letter written to his mother including a description of Carnival. Jane and Samuel Delley emigrated to Australia in 1857. By 1870 they and their young family had settled in the area at the entrance of the Fyans Valley and on the west of Fyans Creek. There they built a home and recognising the needs of passing travellers and timber-getters, they established Delley's Inn, providing food and refreshments to all in need.Timber dwelling with bark roof and two chimneys, one at either side of the house. The local 'philharmonic orchestra/band' playing at a civic/national day function in the 1950s in Vathi, Ithaca. Music plays an important role in many aspects of life, both civic and social, on the island. During the summer months locals and tourists enjoy a variety of musical and cultural events.Founded in 1904, the Ithaki Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest musical group on the island. The band is a private, non-profit entity and its goal is to offer free musical training to the young of the region and provide them with a broader musical education. The philharmonic orchestra performs concerts and participates in a range of educational, municipal, religious and national day events. Churchill Island Heritage Farm has a large photographic collection dating from the nineteenth century. This series showcases photographs taken in the 1930s and 1940s and shows people who lived and worked on the Island during the Jenkins period. This photograph is of Ginger pulling a cart with Sister Margaret Campbell and Alice Jenkins riding along. Sister Campbell was Ted Jenkins' carer, and managed the daily running of the Island, eventually inheriting it after his death. Alec Pederick was born in 1902 and left school at 15 to work on his parents' farm at Wyuna, Kyabrum,Victoria. After receiving a sense of call he trained for the Methodist ministry and was appointed to his first parish at Zeehan, Tasmania in 1927. He was called to serve with the Methodist Overseas Mission in New Britain and New Ireland in 1929. He married Dorothy Clarke just before he left. After four years in PNG he returned through ill-health to Victoria. He was appointed to the Beaufort Circuit in 1933 and then in 1936 to the Methodist Home Missions Department. He was called up as an Army chaplain in 1942 and sent on active service in Papua New Guinea. He was discharged in 1944 and returned to the Home Missions Department. He was appointed acting General Superintendent in 1944 and then General Superintendent in 1946, a position he held until 1962. He also served as Director of the Federal Methodist Inland Mission for a time. He died in 1972.B & W photograph of 16 men and women sitting and standing outdoors. Alec W. Stawell Corps was opened in the year 1884 in the month of May. The first meeting was conducted in a Church but afterwards the old market (area present Library) was secured for meetings.
