Ithacan Greeks have a musical tradition influenced by the Italian cantanda style that is very melodic. The bands featured in the photographs were well-known entertainers on Ithaca. The mandolin, violin and piano accordion were popular instruments. As part of the Ionian Islands, Ithaca was under Venetian control for many years and as such a Venetian influence in evident in the islands musical tradition.A collage of four photographs, mounted and white board and laminated. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. 'Earth Blanket' is a quilt made by Pamela Farmer of Shoreham, Victoria in 2000. It is made from a wool blanket with merino and alpaca felt. The techniques used to make it include: felting, applique, quilting, machine and hand embroidery and it has been dyed with eucalyptus leaves. This quilt was an entrant in "Expressions 2000: the wool quilt prize"; an acquisitive exhibition held by the National Wool Museum from 16 Sept. 2000 to 3 Dec. 2000 (extended until 2 Feb. 2001) for contemporary art quilts, with the first prize winning $2000. Betty Brown was a student of the Ballarat Technical Art School when she completed this work, most probably for the Wiltshire Poster Competition. In the 1936 Ballarat School of Mines Annual Report it was stated: "It is my pleasure to report a most successful year in the Technical Art School. Juli HAAS (1952–2014) Born Melbourne Juli Haas studied under Euan Heng’s at the Monash University Churchill campus. Haas completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1989, a Graduate Diploma of Arts in 1990 and a Master of Arts (Research) in 1995. Juli Haas has won Sir John Sulman prize in 1995 at the Art Gallery of NSW and in 1994 and 1997 the Martin Hanson Memorial Works on Paper Prize.
