A photograph from the collection of the historian Dorothy Rogers, donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The photographs were taken for the historian to assist in research for her historical works on Kew, published as separate volumes such as Lovely Old Homes of Kew (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or articles on local history for suburban papers. In many cases the photographs contain numerous annotations by Mrs Rogers. While the resource has intrinsic importance, it has additional significance due to it forming part of the research library of the historian Dorothy Rogers. The Rogers Collection is the largest collection within the Kew Historical Society's archives. Andrew MacKenzie had researched some of the at least 200 paintings by Frederick McCubbin that were apparently lost. One called "An Old Politician" had been retitled by his purchaser "An Old Coach Builder" as the model was coach builder George Elliott, of the business Stevenson and Elliott. MacKenzie was assisted by Kathleen Mangan, McCubbin's last child. No exact matches for a female "W Wilson" were found in research, though the hat could have belonged to Nancy Wilson, born in Carlton to W Wilson.Navy wool felt hat with wide brim and navy grosgrain ribbon band with bow on right side and black rising sun badge on centre front of ribbon. The hat also has a synthetic sweatband on the interior, on to which a cotton label has been sewn with the name "W. WILSON". Historian Dorothy Wickham could not find the death registration for John Egan, and after some research she discovered he did not die on the way to Ballarat, but lived to be Court martialled in New Zealand.
