Newspaper clipping from The Sun (?), undated, late 1970? about Parliament (Victorian) being told by the Minister for Fuel and Power (Mr. Balfour) that the City of Ballarat wanted to scrap its trams, following a question from Mr. Trezise (ALP Geelong North) in the Legislative Assembly. No decision had yet been made. Also quotes the Secretary of the Ballarat Trades and Labor Council, Mr. A.C. Williams saying that Ballarat people would protest this decision. On rear of cutting has an item about the Noongah Enquiry, an inquiry into the sinking of the Noongah. Set of two newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Age, p4, dated May 31, 1971 of the setting up of the BTPS by a group of young people the previous day. Has photo of a group taking a photo of the driver (Mr. Les Bird) holding the trolley pole rope. Notes that they hope to keep six trams going, tram to be operated on a voluntary basis similar to Puffing Billy, many of the group were Melbourne students and that the Ballarat contingent was consciously small. The first cutting also has a small piece on the top edge, cut out from the same newspaper referring to the article on page 4, titled "TRAMS". Built around 1841, St Ninian’s, located at 10 Miller Street, was one of Brighton’s earliest buildings. It is best known as being the home of merchant shipping agent, politician and former British naval officer, George Ward Cole between the 1840s and 1902. Following the death of George Ward Cole in 1879 and his wife in 1898, their only surviving child, Margaret, sold the property to Sir Thomas Bent, who subdivided the land in the early 1900s.
