Book, The Dreamtime: Australian Aboriginal Myths in Paintings, 1968
...as yet our writers, musicians, dramatists, and artists, still dominated by the influences of overseas cultures, have seen but little inspired by the beauty of the mythical beliefs of our native people. Suddenly, this rich store of beauty has been revealed to us through the paintings of Ainslie Roberts. With the creative mind of the true artist, free from all influences except those of the mythical stories of the brown-skinned aborigines, he has given us pictures as full of imagery and fantasy as the stories on which they are based, pictures that reveal both the sensitive mind of the artist and the fertile imagination of the aboriginal story-teller.79 pages : coloured illustrations ; 24 cm....as yet our writers, musicians, dramatists, and artists, still dominated by the influences of overseas cultures, have seen but little inspired by the beauty of the mythical beliefs of our native people. Booklet, The After-School Problems of the Deaf and Dumb
This booklet published by John Patrick Bourke (1882-1960) challenged the leadership of the Adult Deaf and Dumb Society of Victoria and its treatment of the Victorian Deaf. Bourke had lost his hearing as a young man. Before he became deaf he was educated and trained as a teacher and so had quite a different perspective of the Deaf community coming into it as a well educated adult. This book was controversial at its time of publication in 1933. This booklet is significant as it provides an insight into the Victorian Deaf community in the 1930's and its struggle to forge an identity within a parochial environment.Grey Cover; Size 20.5cmHx13cmW, 24 pagesj. p. bourke, after-school problems, deaf and dumb, central meeting place. spiritual and religious needs -

8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection
Functional object - Horse shoe wallet
Each light horseman carried two spare horse shoes and nails in a wallet or case attached to his saddle. The wallet was attached to the near (left ) side of the saddle and a sabre could be secured in the loops on the side of the wallet. Stamps on the underside of this wallet indicate it was used by a trooper of the 13th Light Horse Regiment during WWI (1914-1918). It is possible the wallet was issued to Regimental Number 280 Trooper H B Johnson. The 13th Light Horse Regiment (AIF) was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in March 1915. Following service at Gallipoli the regiment was broken up with squadrons going to France as Divisional Cavalry Squadrons of 2nd, 4th and 5th Divisions. The regiment was reformed as firstly 1st Anzac Corps Mounted Troops and later Australian Corps Mounted Troops. The regiment was raised as 13th Light Horse (Gippsland), a Citizen Forces unit. following WWI, and trained as a cavalry regiment till August 1940, when it converted from horse to mechanised initially as 13th Motor Regiment then 13th Armoured Regiment. It trained in Victoria and, as the Japanese threat to the mainland declined, was disbanded in October 1943 with men going to other units. unique relic of the Australian Light Horse in WWI.Leather wallet containing two spare horse shoes to be attached to saddle by light horseman. loop on side and securing strap held cavalry sword if trooper was issued with one.CGHF / B / 13 LH / 280military, horse, shoe, wallet, case -

Warrnambool and District Historical Society Inc.
Book, Constitutions of the United Grand Lodge of the Ancient, 1922
This book contains the Constitutions of the Freemason Lodges in Victoria. Freemasonry is a world-wide benefit society. Moves were made in the 1860s to establish a Masonic Lodge in Warrnambool with the first Lodge being St. John’s (No. 895). The Masonic Hall in Kepler Street was built in 1870. This book belonged to a member of the Flaxman family and John Flaxman was a prominent Warrnambool resident in the 19th century – an insurance agent and moneylender in the 1860 and 70s and an employee of the auctioneer, Samuel Macgregor. The book, however, seems to belong to a W. Flaxman. John Flaxman had a brother William but, as far as can be ascertained, he did not live in Warrnambool. There is nothing known so far to link this book with Warrnaambool but it is kept because of the name ‘Flaxman’ and so it may have some relevance. This is hard cover book of 142 pages. The cover is blue with gold lettering on the front cover. The cover is slightly marked. The inscription on the first page is handwritten in black ink. ‘Br W.S.B.J.Flaxman 24-2-25’ william flaxman, freemasonry in warrnambool
