Joseph Ebery was a Congregational minister, born 1858, died November 3, 1947. Ministry was as Wesleyan Home Missionary ?–1897; Congregational churches – Dover (Tas) 1897-1907; Tamar St Launceston 1907-1909; Devonport 1909-1914; Gatton (Qld) 1915-?; Redcliffe (Qld) 1921-1927; Beechworth (Vic) 1927-1930; Hughesdale 1930-1934. Was a Wesleyan lay preacher at Allandale and Woodbridge (Tas). Obituary - "… For ten years carried on an energetic evangelistic ministry, riding his horse over the roughtest roads in his scattered district, which was 25 miles long, and visiting even the southern-mosst home in the island (Tasmania)" As a Wesleyan Home Missionary he was not allowed to marry. The Congregationalists had no such restrictions so he joined the Congregational Church and married his Emily. Rev. Dr. William Morley (1842-1926) was born in Notting-Hampshire, England where he received early ministerial training. He was twenty when he arrived in New Zealand, where he was twice President of the Methodist Conference and then President of the General Conference. In 1902 he was called to Australia to take up the position of managing treasurer of the Supernumerary Minister's Fund. In 1891, Morley was a member of the second Methodist Ecumenical Conference at Washington and President of Queen's College Council 1909 - 1925. Rev. Desmond Tarran (1916 - 1992). Born at Werribee. Converted at age 15. Entered the Home Missionary Training College in 1936. Spent 29 years in many appointments including 3 years 1950 - 1952 in Inland Mission in the Murchison area, Western Australia. Enlisted as an army medical orderly in 1940. Served in the medical service in Palestine and was transferred to a forward casualty station, then taken prisoner by the Japanese in 1942. On the Death Railway in Thailand worked closely with Dr E. (Weary) Dunlop and Dr Albert Coates in caring for starving and maltreated prisoners. Returned to home mission service in 1947. In 1966 was selected for special ordination as a Methodist minister.
