This envelope was sold by The Log Cabin in Marysville as a souvenir of Marysville. The Log Cabin was built by Thomas Henry Branchflower who had arrived from England late in 1921. It was built for Gwendoline Pitman after the death of her father Clarence Pitman and the disappearance of her sister Olive in July 1926. A black and white postcard of the Buxton Hotel in Buxton. The Buxton Hotel was built by William Burchall, probably in the late 1870s. The first owner, who also had land locally, was Frederick Nichols (1833-1904). The Buxton Hotel is located directly opposite the General Store. It was fronted with two huge oak trees and bordered and backed by large pine trees. It was a weatherboard structure with a painted corrugated iron roof. Old split wood shingles were covered by corrugated iron, which overlaid the shingles to make the roof watertight. The wooden shingles date back to the 1850s. Dana Street Primary School still educates children in Ballarat. The old bluestone section of the school has been used as an early campus of the Ballarat Junior Technical School, as well as a campus of the Ballarat Teachers' College. In 1856 a printed notice was distributed around Ballarat announcing that Mr and Mrs C. Marin were opening a school in Doveton Street on 12 January 1857. The National School, supported by the Church of Christ, opened with 80 pupils, and attendance was between 9am and 12 noon, and 1pm and 3pm. On 12 March 1859 James Oddie, Peter Lalor, Dr James Stewart, Robert Lewis, J.B. Gray and C.J.
