The Birney tram was named after its designer Charles Birney and was designated a "safety car". It was a type G tram that had a smaller wheel base and was designed specifically for routes with lighter traffic as it could only carry 50 passengers. It featured folding doors and steps and was the first tram that could be operated by the driver alone without a conductor. This particular tram was built in 1925 by the J G Brill Company in Philadelphia, USA. It was flat-packed to Adelaide where it was reassembled. It operator in Adelaide until 1935 when it was sold to Geelong before again being sold to the Bendigo Tramways in 1947. It continued to operate until the tramways closure in 1972. Edward Thomas Warren arrived in Victoria in 1852 and joined the police force in 1856. He served in Geelong 1856-1864 before coming to Bendigo, where he remained until his death in 1892. He had retired from the police force in 1886. He had been a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters for 25 years. This fraternity aimed to provide social and financial support to members during sickness, death, old age, unemployment and disability.A 44 page document detailing the history of the local Warren family. Most notably the Senior Constable Edward Thomas Warren whom worked at the Sandhurst Police Barracks where it is currently leased by Bendigo Senior Secondary college.

Manuscript titled "The Tramways of Ballarat", prepared by Keith Kings during 1964 based on the text in the last paragraph. Provides a short history of Ballarat, the construction and operation of the horse tram system, the take over and construction of the electric tramways by the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria, and operation of horse tram trailers. Includes the takeover by the SEC, replacement tramcars, Lydiard St Nth extension, exchange of cars with Bendigo, Geelong, attempts to close the system and operations during the mid 1960s.Yields information about the history of Ballarat Tramways written in 1964.
