This object relates to James KELLY. He was born on 1/01/1890 in Warragul, VIC. James served in the AIF (333) enlisting on, 10/09/1914 before being killed in action on duties with the 14TH BATTN as a Army Non-Commissioned Private (PTE) on 27/08/1915. James KELLY was not a prisoner of war. His next of kin is Micheal KELLY (Father) - Trentham. James Kelly was awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal.Note attached reads - "This crochet work was done by Mabel TRUDGEON in memory of her oldest brother, Richard of Welshman's Reef near Newstead who was killed in France early in 1918. A section of four riflemen was the basic element of a Light Horse unit. In action when forced to dismount, three men formed the firing group while one man took the horses to cover.The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion and deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. The regiment was disbanded at the end of the war, 1945. 20th Light Horse was the only light horse unit to serve overseas in WWII.This is one of a collection of photographs featuring a Light Horse regiment drawn from rural and regional Victoria in the period immediately prior to mobilisation for World War 2 (1939-1945).Black and white photograph mounted on card of four mounted horsemen being a section of the 20th Light Horse Regiment circa 1939. Technical manuals and User Handbooks were essential equipment for Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) tradesmen permanently attached to Armoured Corps regiments as Light Aid Detachments (LAD) or Tech Support Troop (TST) and were responsible for repairs and maintenance of a nature beyond the expertise of AFV crewmen and just short of major rebuilds undertaken by Base Workshop detachments.Part of a collection of workshop manuals and user handbooks relating to equipment on issue to 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles during the latter half of the twentieth century.Heavy card covered manual with fabric spine, screw bound being Standard Notes for Armourers and Fitters Armourer. A list of servicemen that were submitted for inclusion on the Junior Legacy Honour Roll. However the document mentions this list is of those 'for whom there was no "master card" or concerning whose entitlement to entry on the Roll there is some doubt'. There is a column for 'Here enter any known details'. The final Honour Roll lists junior legatees that served overseas in the armed forces, initially World War Two, and displayed in cabinets in Legacy House. The purple type implies it was made with a renostat form of printing so was a copy of the original document. The final page has a note to return the form to Junior Legacy. It is presumed it was copied and sent out to Legatees to ask for their input about any of the men proposed for inclusion on the roll.A record that whilst compiling an Honour Roll effort was made to ask Legatees for details to ensure that the inclusion was appropriate.White foolscap paper with purple type x 3 pages with a list of names submitted for the Honour Roll. honour roll, junior legatee

The postcard has a poem that says "Manifestly, since love is the law of life, If men are to be won from hate to love, If those who doubt and deny are to be wooed to faith, If the Race is ever to be led and lifted into a life of Service, It must be by the Fine Art of COMRADESHIP. - J. Ford Newton" The hand written note says: "Dear Bill, Just to wish you all the best for 1943. Yours sincerely, Herb Greenway." There is no post mark, postage stamp or address on the card. Presumably this card was hand delivered as a New Years greeting in 1943. Has a strong association with the people who sent and received the card.Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.10344 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Ethel Hodgson of Lethbridge, stamped in Ballarat on 26-8-1905.
