Black & White Photograph of one of the ESCo Toastracks being assembled in the Exhibition Buildings in Grenville St., north of the Alfred Hall in 1905. The other open Toastrack or Summer tramcar is behind this tram, with other California Combination cars on the sides. The trams have yet to be fitted with wheels or equipment, including headlights. Note the front dash panel has been painted, but no headlight opening or cut out. The print for this photograph made from a copy negative of page 454 of the Australasian, August 19, 1905 in 1993. Print includes caption (all in caps) "Summer Traffic Car: to be used in trips to and from the Gardens. It is without sides, and has reversible backs. Ballarat Electric Tram Service". See Reg. Set of four black and white postcards printed onto a one sided colour textured stock and contained within a folded white glossy paper envelope. The white envelope has the title "Ballarat Trams A Pictorial History in Four Post Cards" and a horse tram printed on it - made from heavy one sided paste board. The postcards consist of 1. Horse tram arriving at Grenville St with person stepping off - same image as Reg. Item No. 1539, 3898 2. ESCo tram soon after opening - c1905/1906 - has Gardens destination sign. 3 ESCo Sebastopol tram at the time of construction - with a "Suttons for Gramophones" roof advertisement and lettered "Ballarat Tramways". 4. SEC Tram - appears to be No. 32 in the Gardens area. On the rear of cards 1 and 2 is a text caption story that is relevant to the card picture. Yields information about the change over from horse to electric trams and a comparison between the two types of trams, uniforms and clothing of passengers and the way destinations were shown.Black and White photograph, assumed a copy photograph of ESCo 16 and a horse tram - at Rubicon St where Sebastopol passengers transferred between horse and electric transport. No. 16 has two uniformed men at the front and a conductor on the rear stop, two children on the front seat and a lady on the rear. A uniformed horse tram driver is standing by the front of the horse. No. 16 has the destination of Grenville St, and a large sign "Sebastopol & Rubicon St Tramways via Drummond St". The destination is on the roof of the tram, possibly indicating early 1907 - 08. On rear cover has publisher details "A Viewpoint Scenic Production"., titled "In Scenic Colour Ballarat, Vic". ESCo Employee Hours Work Record book that has been used by an ESCo/SEC inspector, H. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "Out of the Past". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history.
