Coloured postcard of the view from Little Collins St looking north along Elizabeth St. Has a northbound cable tram and several horse-drawn wagons in the view. In the view are the GPO, Newing's Artists materials, Royal Arcade, and Turner's bicycles. The letter is dated 8/12 from an Eck in Toorak addressed to Doris Ettelson in Ballarat. The stamp used was introduced in 1913 by the Commonwealth Government as the first National stamp - see reference. Card published by C T Melbourne. Photo shows one of the horse trams and staff that operated the line that ran from Hawthorn Bridge via Burwood Road, Power Street, and Riversdale Road to Auburn Road, opening in 1890. There are 8 uniformed men and three officers in the photograph. In the background are many undeveloped housing blocks, and the Hawthorn Town Hall tower. The tramway operated until 1916 when it was replaced by an electric tram.
