This portable braille writer was made for the Royal Institute for the Blind, England. It embosses a roll of paper tape. A folding arm, which extends 29 centimetres beyond the width of the braille writer, holds the tape. The braille writer has six conventional keys and a spacing key. The bottom of the wooden carrying case serves as a base and is lined with green felt. It was manufactured by J.M. Oscar Picht invented this braille writer in Bromberg, Germany, where he was the Director of the Provincial School for the Blind. Seven keys facilitate the typing of Braille. All in a wooden box with a metal handle on the front and a hook and eye on either. Made by H E Barry and Son, Brunswick, the soldiers housewife was a portable sewing kit that allowed soldiers to complete running repairs on their uniforms. It included, needles, thread, wool, buttons etc. Barry's also were contracted to provide shorts, shirts and trousers for the army.Soldier's housewife kit in calico bag. The kit comprise: a spoon, a sawing kit wrap in its own cloth with nine needles and three different colours threads (red, white, brown), a razor in its box on the outside Invicta razore manufacturesd by E. M. Dickinson Sheffield England, a shaving brush and a band made of leather for sharpening the razor.

Metal box with hinged lid containing Morse code equipment – batteries, bell, transmission key. Remains of webbing carry straps on back (see photo). This item has been modified from the original design. The item has a battery box located behind the Morse key but the original battery has been replaced by two rectangular 1.5 V batteries which were placed in the shelf below the Morse key. That shelf was initially intended to store the audio telephone hand piece which is no longer with the device. One of a pair of posed photographs of Car 7 in Corio Tce. prior to opening day. The tramline curves to the right into the depot whose entrance lies between Blakiston & Co on the right and the MESCo's offices on the corner of Yarra St., to the left. Note its ornamental turret, removed in the 20s. The carefully arranged poseurs are employees of the Company, recognisable from the other photographs. The second photograph (Item No. 8617 - large print on wall in board room) shows the opposite end of the tram with the Geelong Club and Mac's Hotel in the background. The same characters are aboard, differently arranged. Early 1912. The box is lined with white satin in the lid and blue velvet in the box.
