She became an active member of the local tourist association and was acclaimed for her 'energy and enterprise' (Riverine Herald, 31 December 1915). Thomas Barton was one of the earliest settlers in Marysville and with 16 children and numerous descendants, the name of Barton is synonymous with Marysville. Thomas John Barton, along with his business partner, Ewen Hugh Cameron, opened a butcher/abattoirs in Marysville in 1864. This was the first shop in Marysville. They supplied meat and other items to the miners along the Woods Point road. Thomas Barton was an active community member and was a key organiser in setting up the school in Marysville in 1870. Yesterday lunch time Margaret/ had three servings of sweets and was coming/ up for one more before I stopped her. We played/ in the snow on Lake Mountain and were/ taken to Steavensons Falls. We are saving/ the Eildon Weir trip to do on our way/ home. I took the girls horse riding and/ for an hour I walked behind and had to/ hit the horses on the rump to make them move./ 7/6 an hour each too.
