There are 2 crossings on the road - This crossing is near the Wimmera River Rail Bridge. The cause of the accident - was a collision between a loaded Gravel truck and the passenger train. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. The actual date of the photographs is unknown. The photos depict members of the Cheltenham Tennis Club. The courts were located in the Cheltenham Park, where the Memorial now stands. The Club was dismantled about 1958. As the men were wearing long trousers it is probably c1920 Cheltenham Tennis Club 1883 was one of the first Tennis Clubs established in Melbourne.There are 6 small black and white photographs. These informal and formal group photos were taken on the day of a CO’s Parade. It is not known why sunglasses were worn at the Squadron parade outside the Litho huts. This is a set of 20 oblique aerial photographs taken during the field phase of 4th Field Survey Squadron’s Operation NERVOSE 85 project in the Northern Territory in 1985. Operation NERVOSE 85 was mounted by 4 Fd Svy Sqn in the EAST ARNHEM, VICTORIA RIVER DOWNS AND DALY WATERS areas of the Northern Territory from 26 May to 18 Sep 85. The aim of Operation NERVOSE 85 was to finalise the horizontal and vertical control for mapping at a scale of 1:50,000, to field check 40x 1:50,000 preliminary maps and to obtain mapping photography in support of the RAAF TINDAL redevelopment project. *Note –These photos were most likely taken in 1985, contrary to the ‘1987’ date annotated on the negative sleeves. The Op NERVOSE 85 Project Report available on RASVY’s web site lists a nominal roll of personnel. Photos of 4 Fd Svy Sqn taken in 1985 and 1987 provide names of posted personnel. This album is possibly a collection printed from newspaper files. It has a wide variety of local scenes from haymaking, sports, social functions, beach scenes. Some names have been written in greylead, identifying some of the people in the photos and others are recognizable backgrounds such as the Peterborough Golf ClubWhile these images are not of true photographic quality, they do provide images of local scenes and activities which were relevant to the area in the mid 20th century. Some such as lifesaving carnivals, bike riding and golf continue to this day, others showing the hand raking of hay are long gone.Green card cover with red binding.
