This file contains 2 items. 1/ A photocopy of an article by Rosalind Landells from ‘Architect’, dated May 1976 about the ecclesiastical architect Louis Williams, who designed a number of churches in the Glen Eira area, including St Peters Church Murrumbeena and The Christian Science Church in Elsternwick. His designs allowed more space for the sanctuary area and better light from coloured and pattered glass windows. Next to the goldfields warden's camp was the obvious place to house the police troopers. First there were tents, then a timber dwellings which, in 1859, gave way to a sandstone building. The Club known today as the Bendigo Bowls Club originated from the Sandhurst Bowling Club in 1870/71 changing its name to Bendigo in 1872. It is located in central Bendigo just a short walk through the picturesque Rosalind Park from Bendigo’s central business district. https://bendigobowlsclub.com.au/history/ William Henry Sunderland was a Bendigo investor, member of the Bendigo Stock Exchange and director of many mining companies. His father, George, had been a mounted trooper assigned as a gold escort between Melbourne and Bendigo. William became the President of the Bendigo Bowling Club in 1916.Leather satchel with gold embossed text. Text reads B.B.C Holmes Trophy. Won by W. H. Sunderland. 1906-7. Inside the satchel are eight items pertaining to a men's toiletry set. These include; a comb, a mirror, a clothing brush, a glass cylinder with metal lid, a small metal tin, a razor strop, a shoe hook and a soap case. Four items appear to be missing from the set. Charles Leslie Mitton (1905-1968) was a pharmacist at 131 Union Road, Surrey Hills from 1933-1968. DOD 30/04/1968. Prior to coming to Surrey Hills, he was a pharmacist in Newmarket (Ref: 1931 electoral roll). He and his wife, Ethel Sylvia Elizabeth Mitton (nee Stevenson) lived at 65 Union Road. They were married in 1933 and had 2 sons and a daughter. He was followed in the business by his son John and daughter Rosalind. See also SHP0015 - Charles Mitton outside his pharmacy; SHP1100 - head and shoulders portrait of Charles Mitton.A ledger with a brown cloth cover, partly stained, with tooled leather corners and a label on the centre of the front cover, both in burgundy leather. The pages are pre-ruled and there is an index at the front. The index includes the account number and the account holder's name. The entries are in blue and occasionally black ink, in a consistent hand. There are a lot of blank pages. The entries include accounts for local doctors for supplies for their practices. Both the front and back covers and the edges of the pages are dirty.
