Amalgamation was a major push of the Hawke - Keating Government. .14 - March 1992 - supportive of Jim Harper, dismissive of Lou DiGregorio, Union executive, union amalgamation, cross linking of tram routes, racial discrimination within the PTC, Kew Depot, ACTU. Lists the rank and file committee - see key associations. Latham’s frustrations were shared by several would-be heroes in Victoria. In 1977 Paul Krutulis gained an exemption from union membership from the Arbitration Commission as a conscientious objector, only to find that tramway workers at Kew planned to stop work as soon as he appeared. Commissioner Cohen then recommended his dismissal, saying she “had to deal with the reality of the situation.” Krutulis later became president of a group called People Against Communism, before being murdered in September. Thus Krutulis departed the scene to be followed in early 1978 by motor mechanic Jack Kane, who had crossed a picket line at a Melbourne City Council depot. The AMWU forced the Council to sack him before it would end the strike. In September of the same year, Barbara Biggs succeeded in provoking a confrontation in the tramways where Krutulis had failed, by refusing to join the union and prompting 100 unionists at Brunswick depot to go on strike. The union executive had arranged token action confined to this depot, but the members wanted more. The strike spread to Preston, then 2,000 trammies at a mass meeting voted for an indefinite strike amidst “rowdy outbursts”. When Biggs complained at being excluded from the meeting a conductress told her, “We should have let you in, love. Set of 7 typed, some bound foolscap documents associated with the agreement with the promoter for the construction of the Essendon Tramway system during 1904. Only the top page has been imaged. .1 - 21 page (top page loose), "The Town of Essendon and The Borough of Flemington and Kensington with A. E. Morgans Esq Agreement" dated 26/9/1904, sets out routes, gauge, motive power, maximum speed, safety, tolls and charges, use, power house, default and various responsibilities. Last page has signature details. .2 - 8 pages bound with a clip, marked "A", dated 26/9/1904, Agreement of Delegation of Morgan's rights to the North Melbourne Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. Ltd. .3 - 15 page bound with a clip, marked "B" dated 26/9/1906, (1904?) agreement of Delegation of Morgan's rights for the transfer of order under Electric Light and Power Act 1896. Failed to meet its new 82% punctuality target (up from 77%) in 5 of past 12 months. Fined more than $300K in penalties. Both public transport operators won 7 year contracts in 2017. Tram route 86 has lowest punctuality (75.1%), more than 6500 services short shunted (7.5% of all services). Government says tram performance has improved overall due to tougher targets. Customer surveys show 15% drop in complaints to Yarra Trams. Set of two Colour slides, Kodak, white cardboard of trams of trams at the Victoria St / Swanston St shunt. 21-7-59. .1 - W2 340 showing East Malvern Darling road opposite the signal box followed by W2 showing route 4. Has a large number of men and school boys at the stop. In the view is a "No Entry" sign. In the background is the Ansett ANA building and a building advertising Havelock Tobacco. The tram has a Pimms No. 1 advert. .2 - W2's 550 (with a Castrol sign), 340 - as above and 358 (route 8, Toorak - Glenferrie Road) in the Victoria St shunting area. Colour postcard grey border, divided back - Steve Parish postcard of 7 trams on Prince's Bridge, with a blue arch in the background. The lead tram - W5 or SW5 793 showing route 3, followed by many trams. On the other track appears to be SW5 872, route 15. Both have Medibank Private adverts on the front. May have been at the time of an event, given that a Officer in a suit is talking to the driver. Back has space for name and address, stamp and a message and details of the postcard. Produced by Steve Parish Postcards. Card No. PC3029 and a historical note regarding trams on the back. Advises that Metcard vending machines are being installed in tramcars from 16/7/1996 and that it will be introduced on Route 75 in the next couple of months. Refers questions to the Depot Manager, Geoff Lockwood and the Senior Depot Trainer - Greg Rodgers. Gives an overview of the system, tickets, validators, questions and answers about Metcards, including Metcard Xpress (something that did not actually happen), ticket types, assistance and concessions. Set of seven Agfa colour slide, blue and white plastic mount, photo by Keith Caldwell of a track deviation during the construction of the Alexandria Avenue underpass at the north end of St Kilda Road. Shows the deviation, temporary track ("on the fly), overhead works and after the bridge has been completed, the permanent track brought into use.. All have the Arts Centre in the background. Slides 1 to 4 - 17/6/1971, 5 to 7 - 20/6/1971, after the change over from the temporary track to the permanent track. .1 - W6 919 outbound, East Malvern Route 3 - has a large gantry beam in the background and an advertisement for briquettes and Norton Bear tape. In the background is the National Gallery of Victoria building. .2 - W2 819 outbound, route 8 Toorak, with Shrine of Remembrance in the background. .3 - W2 389 ditto for Glen Iris, Route 6 .4 - W2 349 outbound for East Brighton, route 64 and inbound W2 633, city, route 67. .5 - SW6 854 inbound using the new track on the bridge, but temporary track remains in front of the tram. Overhead crews at work. W5 768 following. Both trams are travelling on the wrong line or "bang road" Tram have a Stillwell Ford and Ferris Car radio adverts. .6 - SW6 905 inbound, route 67. Also running wrong line. In the background is a rail mounted overhead trolley tower and Bedford truck MZR129. .7 - SW6 845 in bound route 8 followed by SW6 854, route 72. Both trams are running on the wrong line.
