Cream cotton doyley (doiley) crocheted by either Elsie Nolting (nee Fraser) or her cousin May Rose (nee Bennett) both of Charlton Victoria. The item was made around 1918 as a dedication to the success of the allies in the First World War. Doyley is crocheted in a treble stitch, edged with clear glass beads. A border of blue stitchery 2 cm from inside the fringe surrounds a floral design of three variegated pink flowers, one variegated blue flower, and soft green leaves. Textiles. Two doyleys, rectangular in shape, and made from net fabric. Outer edges are cut in a zig-zag shape - 2.5 cms long edges ^^. These edges are outlined by a double row of white corded thread. The doyleys are decorated with a large ''snow-flake'' shape in the centre-made with four rows of cording thread. Edges are cut and hemmed in a drawn fabric manner, and this is repeated in a decorative way, in the centre of the doyley, echoing the outer shape of the doyley. The floral ''needle weaving'' embroidery comprises two petalled flowers, with raised bulliow stitch embroidered centres. Centre has two 8 cm diameter, circular motifs surrounded by a band of four-petalled ''flowers'' 1 cm in diameter.
