Copy negative of an illustration of cable cars in Elizabeth St at the corner with Collins St. Has the Elizabeth St station n the view, along with Craigs and the Royal Bank. Rod Atkins advised 24/08/2020: "Dates from around 1914. taken 11.53 am in high summer. The Flinders Street Railway station looks complete but we still have all the telephone cables on poles in both Elizabeth and Collins Streets. I don't know the year they all went underground. We have two standard "Fitzroy" trams in Collins Street and one West Melbourne tram with standard eight window trailer - no bogie trailers in the photo. Some of the West Melbourne trailers were still six window cars in the 1920's. The major building in the photo is the "Royal Bank" on the South East Cnr. of Collins and Elizabeth Street. Rose Series postcard No. P 622, titled ""Melbourne from the Air", Photo looking east over Melbourne with the Melbourne skyline, railway yards, St Kilda Road, Yarra River and Princes Bridge in the view. Three trams can be seen in the view in St Kilda Road. The building in the middle bottom of the photo is the recently completed Australian Provincial Assurance (APA) Assocation Limited Head Office on the south east corner of Collins and Queen Streets. This 1889 building was refaced and the tower added in 1928-1929. The adding of three additional floors to the Bank of Australasia building, 1875-1876, is well in hand 1929-1931 on the north west corner of Queen and Collins Streets. On the south east corner of the corner of Collins and Market Streets, the new Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) Society Head Office is reaching full height, also constructed 1929-1931. Rose Series postcard No. P 1701 titled "Elizabeth Street from Lonsdale Street Melbourne". Has a number of cable trams in the view, the closest one being a Brunswick tram. There is a policeman on point duty. In the view are signs for G A Grano Mantle manufacturers, Smiths Pawnbroker, State Savings Bank, one horse-drawn cart, and motor vehicles. On the west side footpath under an awning is a "Keep to the left" for pedestrians. Flinders St Railway Station can be seen in the far distance. The building in this image was built by J. I. Murray for use as a Bank premises. The National Bank of Australasia opened a branch in the building in 1862 and remained there until 1865. The Colonial Bank of Australasia then occupied the building from 1865 until 1872. At the time this image was taken in 1883 the building was in use as a shop, although a sign saying 'National Bank of Australasia' could still be seen on the building. Goods for sale can clearly be seen in the windows and the photographers’ wagon or cart can be partly seen to the right of the picture. At a later stage the building became part of the Royal Hotel which can be seen to the right of the building. The small building to the left of the picture was used as a printing office by the West Bourke and South Grant Guardian newspaper between 1865 and 1872.Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. Housed in the album, 'Photographs of Bacchus Marsh and District in 1883 by Stevenson and McNicoll'. The image shows a shop in Main Street Bacchus Marsh in 1883. Goods for sale can be seen in the windows but there is no signage on the building to indicate what type of shop it is. A sign across the upper facade reads 'National Bank of Australasia' but this bank had vacated this location by 1865. Three women and a man can be seen standing in front of the shop. Two of the women appear to be shaking hands. The woman standing in the doorway is wearing an apron and may be the shop owner or assistant. Just visible at the edge of the photo can be seen a buggy with advertisements on the back and side. Letters that can be distinguished suggest that in all probability this is the carriage used by Stevenson and McNicoll, Photographers, on their trips around rural towns and countryside. Botanical Reserve Stawell West with a gentleman and boat. The first committee of management was gazette in 1863. In April 1870 the reserve was placed under the control of the Borough Council. Private bus parked outside the former lavishly signed State Savings Bank in Moorabool St on the SE corner with Corio St. The bus provided a direct route to West Geelong (Church St and possibly to the stockyards west of Pakington St, via Clarence and Elizabeth Sts.
