Brassards were worn on the right arm by an Australian soldier on active duty with the United Nations. This brassard was worn by Sapper Tommy Wickham on peacekeeping duty in Namibia. The Australian Army contributed soldiers to the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG) peacekeeping mission to Namibia between 1989 and 1990. Sapper Wickham gave the Brassard to Ken Howe in 1992-93, and Ken donated it to the Beechworth RSL around the year 2000. The Australian contribution to the UNTAG mission was the largest deployment of Australian troops since the Vietnam war. Sapper Wickham was one of 300 soldiers sent to Namibia. Polyester/Cotton brassard in a light green. Sewn on the main body of the brassard are two round patches, the first patch represents Australia and features a kangaroo in gold and the words 'Australia' in white, the second represents the United Nations featuring the United Nations symbol. The brassard is secured to the sleeve by a slit in the top through which the shoulder strap is threaded and elastic strip around the arm. Historian Dorothy Wickham could not find the death registration for John Egan, and after some research she discovered he did not die on the way to Ballarat, but lived to be Court martialled in New Zealand. Launch of Eureka Reminiscences, a publication by Ballarat Heritage Services. This book, a collection of memories about Eureka, was researched, created and printed by Ballarat Heritage Services. On the 50th anniversary of Eureka in 1904, men and women wrote about their experiences during the Eureka Rebellion on 3 December 1854. The land surrounding Happy Hollow farm at Plenty was purchased by Francis Wickham in 1840. The land was later subdivided and held by various owners including Charles Partington (1875) and John McLaughlin who leased the property in 1892 to Robert Emmett Whatmough who erected the first dwelling on the property. The land was later owned by Mrs Betty Bell and was purchased by Parks Victoria in 1994 to form part of the Plenty Gorge Parklands.
