Award - RIBBONS, c.1914-1950
The Service Ribbons relate to Benjamin Thomas Roy Chadd 1st and 2nd AIF. Enlisted on 27.1.1916 No 10594 in Div Signal Company 3 age 20 years. Embarked for overseas 27.5.1916. As a driver in Signals he was WIA on 4.6.1918 GSW to right thigh. Discharged from the AIF on 14.6.1919. At some point he enlisted in the Peace time Army and was promoted to Lieut 3rd Div Signals on 1.7.1921, promoted Major 19.2.1929, to Command 2nd Div Sigs 9.9.1936, 3rd Div Sigs 5.5.1939 then to 7th Div Sigs as Lt Col and transfers to the AIF as VX20311, serves in the Middle East, Syria and Pacific. One of a series of four boards of mounted replica medals of the Australian Defence Forces. This board shows medals pertaining to World War 2. Replicas include different campaign stars and the Defence Medal and Active Service Medal. There is a cloth patch embroidered 'H.M.A.S.' and cap band from HMAS Sydney. The Rising Sun badge and badges for Return from Active Service and a RAAF emblem. The text reproduced at the base accompanied the WW1 memorial plaques. The Central Deborah gold mine, the last to close on the Bendigo field, was purchased early in 1970m by the Bendigo City Council for restoration and preservation as a typical Bendigo gold mine equipped with machinery , most of which was made in Bendigo. The Central Deborah Company was formed in 1939 to deepen an existing shaft sunk in 1912. Grace Brebner graduated in 1942 and was the first police woman to attend Detective Training School. She began at the Criminal Investigation Branch in 1951 often taking on undercover shifts at a factory to investigate illegal gambling. This bank book is from the Bank of Australasia branch in Burnley, Melbourne and records the financial transactions of Mrs May Ferguson from July 1939 to June 1944 with an additional entry for 1955. Mrs Ferguson was related to Thomas Ferguson of Dennington, Warrnambool. The Bank of Australasia was established in Sydney in 1835 (Warrnambool in 1854) and joined with other banks in the 1950s to form the present day, ANZ Bank.This book has little local provenance but is of interest as an example of a pass book from the Bank of Australasia, an important early bank in Warrnambool.This is a bank pass book with a dark blue cloth cover. The pages are ruled with black lines and contain printed material and handwritten material in black and red ink. The pages are stapled.
