The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Unique collection of photographs showing the first years of an armoured regiment of the post-Second World War era Citizen Military Forces showing equipment, uniforms, training and social activity and some personalities.Black and white photograph of seven servicemen, 4 in AIF uniform, 1 in RAN uniform and 1 in RAAF uniform. It marks the anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai in November 1917 when a force of more than 400 British Mark IV Tanks broke the defences of the German Hindenburg Line, It was the first large-scale, effective use of tanks in warfare. The Maldon-Laanacoorie railway line was never completed so Shelbourne became to termination point of this line. The station and railway yards opened in 1891 ad were last used in 1969 after bushfires had destroyed bridges on the line. The advertised St Patrick's Day race meeting was held on Saturday 18th March and a special train for patrons was run form Castlemaine, leaving at 1.15pm and returning at 7pm.Bendigo Advertiser '' the way we were'' from 2002. An oval shaped medal issued in Memory of the Boer War 1899-1902 "A War Fought By Reservists" issued by the RFD (Reserve Forces Day Council) in 2012. The medal is oval in shape with enamel overlay in red and gold colours with a photograph centrally of a Boer War Soldier (sepia in colour). There is a ribbon attached with the Boer War medal colours being Red, Blue Orange. Dimensions being 30mm x 45mm. Made of gold metal. Eight-day clock from a Kittyhawk aircraft flown by Flight Lieutenant Ian A. Lyons. Part of the Flight Lieutenant Ian A. (Joe) Lyons MBE Collection. See catalogue No 5374P for his service record.Analogue eight-day aircraft clock with square mounting and round face. Numbers 3, 6, 9 and 12 and hands are white in colour with a black background. A winding knob is located on the bottom left-hand corner. There are two threaded holes on opposite corners for attachment to the control panel of an aircraft.
