Newspaper clipping contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 25 and 27, from The Courier, Sat. 19 June 1937, titled "Story of Ballarat's Horse Trams", 1887 to 1913. Report of a paper presented to the Ballarat Historical Society by Inspector H. P. James the previous Tuesday night. Comprises four columns of text, pasted into the book titled "Of Other Days". General image of page 25 - see image btm2489i1.jpg. For page 27, see image btm2489i3.jpg - shows positioning of Reg. Items 2490, 91 and 92. Notes details of the genesis of the system, personalities involved with the construction, details of the works, depot, Duncan and Fraser car builders, early workers, formal opening, services, extension to Sebastopol, the horses, drivers, uniforms, (and on page 27) collection of fares, housing for the staff, horse feed (chart), passenger loads, conductors, rail and track cleaning and general operational notes. Shows the nature of the clothing worn by the depot staff, and one of the crew and the interior detail of the one of the tramcars at the time. Provides details of names of some of the men photographed.Black and White copy photograph of the ESCo power station and tramway staff outside the front of the ESCo Power Station, View Point, Wendouree Parade, Ballarat c1915. Standing on the ground are 26 men and on the tower truck a further 14 men. Shows details of the clothing the men were wearing at the time, depending on the age and company position, details of the horse drawn tower truck, and of the power station and office brickwork. Functional Object - Brass Plate/s, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1931
Set of two brass manufacturing / data plates from the BTM Isolating transformer that failed Oct. 2004 and sent to ABB's Yarraville Workshop for assessment. Recovered from the transformer by ABB staff following inspection. Plates detail Manufacturer (State Electricity Commission of Victoria), ratings, connection diagrams, windings and date of manufacture (1931). These plates did not reflect the re-winding characteristics, but its original manufacturer. Transformer No. 1267. Each plate has four corner holes. Transformer acquired by the BTPS 1973 for re-winding from the SEC. See Reg. Newspaper Clipping from the Courier, March 1939 of Ballarat No. 29 decorated for the 1939 floral festival. Paper flowers made by the wives of the tramway staff members. Item caption notes the Victorian Country Fire Brigades annual demonstration in Ballarat the previous day and "The tram decorated with flowers in an attractive feature of Ballarat's floral festival."
