Set of three ""Supplementary Running Journal", used by Conductors to enable the checking of tickets by Examiners. Was to be filled out prior to the commencement of journey and placed in the clip provided. Has space for date, punch mark, each fare value or type, time Signature and Number. All have punch marks. Rod Atkins advised 29/7/19 that Alfred Kefford nee Pty Ltd. resided at no 17 Young Street on corner of Duke Street just several doors further up Young Street on the same side. Set of seven Agfa colour slide, blue and white plastic mount, photo by Keith Caldwell of a track deviation during the construction of the Alexandria Avenue underpass at the north end of St Kilda Road. Shows the deviation, temporary track ("on the fly), overhead works and after the bridge has been completed, the permanent track brought into use.. All have the Arts Centre in the background. Slides 1 to 4 - 17/6/1971, 5 to 7 - 20/6/1971, after the change over from the temporary track to the permanent track. .1 - W6 919 outbound, East Malvern Route 3 - has a large gantry beam in the background and an advertisement for briquettes and Norton Bear tape. In the background is the National Gallery of Victoria building. .2 - W2 819 outbound, route 8 Toorak, with Shrine of Remembrance in the background. .3 - W2 389 ditto for Glen Iris, Route 6 .4 - W2 349 outbound for East Brighton, route 64 and inbound W2 633, city, route 67. .5 - SW6 854 inbound using the new track on the bridge, but temporary track remains in front of the tram. Overhead crews at work. W5 768 following. Both trams are travelling on the wrong line or "bang road" Tram have a Stillwell Ford and Ferris Car radio adverts. .6 - SW6 905 inbound, route 67. Also running wrong line. In the background is a rail mounted overhead trolley tower and Bedford truck MZR129. .7 - SW6 845 in bound route 8 followed by SW6 854, route 72. Both trams are running on the wrong line. See Keith Kings history of Footscray notes. All trams running trolley wheels. .1 - Footscray depot cars X1 463, X2 678, X1 460 and X1 466 in Gordon St, about to turn into River Street. .2 - X2 678 turning from Nicholson St into Irving St. Footscray with the Rockmans Store in the background. This store was later demolished for the Ring Road. Also is J. Boltons Chemist shop advertising Kodak film and another shop advertising Darrell Lea Chocolates, Peters Icecream and ? Lopes fruit shop. .3 - X1 460 at same location. .4 - X2 678 crossing Maribyrnong River Bridge - note the person crouching down on the south side of the bridge behind the tram. .5 - X1 460 in Rosamond Road, just before the curve onto Williamson Rd. This site became the Bunnings site. The tram has a modified 21E truck. .6 - X2 468 as above with part of the curve in the view. Series of letters between Frank Shennen, Managing Editor of the Transportation Magazine of Sydney and Lewis Russell regarding cable trams. This information may have formed the basis of an article, "Salute to the Cable Tram" that appeared in the July 1948 issue of Truck and Bus Transportation - see Reg Item 2578. Letters were held with a paper and consisted on the following documents: Letters are in reverse date order. image i1 - item 1, image i2 - letters, image ia - the rear of item 1. 1 - two sheets of paper with cable car numbers and values - written in pencil on sheets torn from old MMTB tender documents - see image htd3908a for the rear of these sheets. 2. - Letter - 2 quarto sheets to Frank Shennen from Lewis Russell dated 7/11/1940 - advising difficultly in getting hold of all the details re cars and details re the inventory of the trams. 3 - Letter - 2 quarto sheets to Mr. Russell from Mr. Shennen, dated 4/11/1940 looking for records on car numbers in particular, notes Nicholson St shops. 4 - Letter - 1 foolscap sheet to Mr Shennen dated 18/10/1940 - draft of a letter regarding a Mr. Greig and MTT reports. 5 - Letter - 1 quarto sheet to Mr. Shennen from Mr Russell re a Mr Greig's history of the cable tram system, Chairman's reports of the MTT. 6 - letter - 1 quarto sheet to Mr. Russell, 16/10/1940 asking for a copy of Mr. Greig's report. 7 - letter - 2 quarto sheets to Mr. Shennen dated 12/10/1940, advising that many of the records have been destroyed when the MMTB moved out of the old head office. Refers to a history by Mr. A. W. Greig of the Historical Society of Victoria some 20 years ago and MTT lines. 8 - letter - 2 quarto sheets to Mr. Russell, dated 8/10/1940. asking for information on cable trams, to be produced in the Railway Historical Society Bulletin, asking for records from Nicholson St workshops, in particular actual car numbers and re-numbering. Attaches a list of material sought. 9 - 2 quarto sheets - listing the information for powerhouses, routes, route signs, car numbers, has notes that some depots numbers were individually assigned - trailers.trams, tramways, cable trams, reports, records, history
