This item is part of the Dodgson Collection, which was bequeathed to Queen's College in 1892 by the Rev. James Dodgson. The collection was created by Aquila Dodgson, brother of James. Aquila Dodgson was a friend of the English Egyptologist Flinders Petrie, and it was through this friendship the Aquila was able to acquire ancient Egyptian artefacts. A detailed study of the collection was made by Christine Elias "Discovering Egypt: Egyptian Antiquities at the University of Melbourne", M.A. thesis 2010.Coarse, gritty fabric almost sandy. Destination roll used to indicate to passengers the destination or route of the tram. At night the roll was back lit by two light bulbs fitted to the destination box on the tram. Item used in Geelong until 1956. Based on the hand written marking, used on bogie tram 39. Sign with equal red bands at top and bottom, white band with letters "HAIL CARS HERE" on both sides to indicate to drivers a request stop, that is, the intending passenger had to indicate or hail the oncoming tram for it to stop and allow them to board.
