Souvenir Tablecloth, 1915 (estimated)
Gold coloured silk tablecloth with green braid edging and mauve silk fringing. It is heavily embroidered with various flags, crowns and flowers relating to the Gallipoli campaign. Possibly made in Eygpt. The flags featured are Australia, France, United Kingdom, Egypt, Japan, Italy, Belgium and Russia. Some fraying along folds. The RAN Bridging Train (RANBT) was a naval reserves unit trained to provided engineering support such as assembling pontoons, temporary jetties and unloading stores. Miniature model of a WW2 era Lockheed P-38 Lightning twin engine aircraft mounted on a bakelite base. The aircraft is supported by a central, chromed bullet vertically mounted on the bakelite base to form a stand. The plane and central support have been made from chromed metal materials. The RAAF was equipped with a small number of these aircraft, commencing in 1942, which were used for front line photographic reconnaissance duty. Miniature model of a WW2 era Avro Anson twin engine aircraft mounted on an ashtray. The aircraft is supported by a curved arm attached to the circular ashtray base. The base has a small metal RAAF 'winged eagle' insignia attached to the front edge. The items have been made from chromed metal materials. The RAAF was equipped with Avro Anson aircraft in the late 1930 period prior to WW2. These aircraft were used by the RAAF for general and maritime reconnaissance and training throughout WW2 and into the early 1950s. Souvenir Guidebook, Aleppo and its Environs
A pocket size booklet with a series of articles about Aleppo, Syria. This booklet was sent to an Australian family by a local citizen befriended by an Australia soldier serving in Syria during World War 2. The book inner cover is marked "To Val with best wishes from Bert?? Aleppo 1-2-47". A trophy in the form of a small replica of an Australian Army 'slouch hat' mounted on a circular stand. The 'slouch hat' is silver plated, has a turned brim on the left hand side and has a 'rising sun' hat badge. The circular stand is made of a light gauge steel which has been pressed in the form of an inverted dish and is coloured with a mid brown finish. There is a silver plated label attached to the dish which has been engraved indicating that this item was originally a trophy (origin unknown). The label has the following engraved inscription "R. Tourist photographs of Jerusalem sent home to family by Noel Blundell who served in the Middle East during World War 2. The black and white photographs are enclosed in a folding card packet for protection. The small photographs are of typical local scenes and there is a printed guide to where the photographs were taken. The photographs are approximately 90mm x between 55 and 65mm. The packet is printed with the following: on the front cover "SELECTED PALESTINE SNAP-PHOTOS", "SERIES: JERUSALEM 3" on the inside of the cover the brand name "VICTORY" on the reverse: a circular insignia with Hebrew and Arabic characters and the word "PALPHOT" with "MADE IN PALESTINE" printed below. -
