Tony HANNING (1950- ) Dr Tony Hanning is an internationally recognised glass artist whose work is represented in all major collections in Australia and many overseas collections including the V&A Museum in London and the Tacoma Art Museum in the USA. He pioneered the ‘cased’ glass technique that involves two layers of different coloured glass carved in a cameo-like fashion. The imagery in Tony Hanning's work often is representitive of the Gippsland landscape. He has a PhD from Monash Univversity (2008); Master of Arts from Monash University (1998); and a Diploma, Visual Arts, Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, Monash University, Melbourne (1971). James Massey Herbert was born in 1891 and died in 1971. He was the son of Lancelot Herbert and Martha Rawling. He was married to Alma Young and his sons were Graham and Eric Herbert. ( info. from John Phillips) This certificate was a letter of introduction to be used when James Massey Herbert travelled overseas.The Herbert family is/was a prominent Orbost family. They were some of the early settlers in the district. This wallet was given to George Langley from the Warrnambool High School ex students in 1940. George Furner Langley 1891-1971 was Principal of Warrnambool High School from 1921 to 1940.He served with distinction in World War One and World War Two and became the Principal of Melbourne High School. This wallet is of some interest as a memento of a prominent Principal of Warrnambool High School - Colonel George Langley. This is a brown kangaroo leather folding wallet with several pockets, a pencil holder, a metal clip on the front and a small metal plaque with an inscription. It is lined with corded material. G.F. This painting was purchased at an exhibition at Australian Galleries in 1968. It originally hung in Robin Boyd's office in East Melbourne, and was only brought to Walsh St after he died in 1971. The Australian Galleries was established by Tam and Anne Purves in June 1956. Robin Boyd designed the Purves family home in Kew in 1967. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club. This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.Eastern side of High Street, Wodonga - Coles New World Supermarket opened on Wednesday 18th August 1971. The One Way sign was for drivers coming from Stanley Street. Parking meters were introduced in High Street in 1977 and remained until 1996. Arch Sloman was the first Manager.
