As the boys were all in dark suits I think the occasion would have been at [Ernie] Ching's funeral. He died with Peron [peritonitis]. He was 21 and a good bandsman. The band played 'Lead kindly light, The Dead March from Saul, very Sad' ". Note: - This information was once written on a piece of paper attached to the photograph. This slip of paper is no longer affixed to back of photograph. There is a copy of this photograph in the Todd family file, with some names listed. If this photograph was taken on the day of Ernie Ching's funeral, it dates the photograph to 1908.
