The Sunshine City club was founded 20th September 1956 as the Sunshine Businessmen’s Club by local businessmen including Eugene “Kinder” Smith, Oscar McKay, Clarence Gibson Carlton, Albert Edward Bolt, and William Dinnell. The club was located at 24 Talmage Street Albion, in the former private residence of David Buchan Ferguson, Managing Director of Sunshine Harvester Works. In April 1968, the club was officially registered as The Sunshine City Club. During the 1970's and 1980's, the club saw the transition of the club rooms from a converted house to a purpose‑built community clubhouse. In 2025 and 2026 saw the club experience financial difficulties and on 3rd May 2026, Voluntary Administrators were appointed and took control of the club's business and operations. The suburban municipality of Brimbank is strategically located across key transport corridors serving Melbourne’s rapid western and northwestern expansion. Brimbank Rising steps through local prehistory and history with attention to planning events from Hoddle’s 1840 survey to the recent Regional Rail Link which shape the area. Across five periods, this history sees planning as a contributory process to city shaping, with specific plans as snapshots in time of endorsed intentions, all through the lens of complexity, connectedness and contingency. Recent geological and ecological history had been productively harnessed by the Wurundjeri before all were disrupted by the arrival of unauthorised settlers from Tasmania and their livestock focused on serving markets in and using methods more appropriate to the other side of the world. Following colonial separation and the discovery of gold in 1851, the second part follows the expansion of heavy rail and the multifaceted influence of leading industrialist H V McKay’s Sunshine Harvester Works through and between the booms of the 1880s and 1920s. Postwar flooding of the Harvester Works, and of the region with migrants, demanded major infrastructure investment and municipal capabilities which were consistent with wider suburbanisation and growing dominance of road transport without challenging the area’s politically safe status. The penultimate section is focused on concurrent events in 2009 and how they play out through council in administration’s Sunshine Rising campaign to capitalise on the local potential of Sunshine’s rail upgrade and complementary infrastructure investments. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. Ticket is one of a run of tickets from 1880 to 2012 (complete except for 1915 and 1916 when the club withdrew from competition and 1899 and 1900 which are missing from the set).Rectangular card covered in black leather with fold in middle and small punched hole lined with metal intop right corner. A number of houses were built within the Sunbury Asylum grounds to house administrators and staff, and their families, who worked at the asylum.
