The Collins history of publishing dictionaries began in 1824 in Glasgow by William Collins who had a background as a teacher and an interest in material related to the Temperence Movement. The company continues to publish dictionaries to this day, including digital versions and foreign language editions. Today the company is known as Harper Collins.
