Notice the bathroom behind the towel on the washing line. This was erected to give the tenant privacy. It cost over 100 pounds. The place was condemned a month or so later. You will notice there is nothing growing here. This part was always used for growing vegetables, there is not one there now. If I get him out the place will have to be demolished. A bathroom set would have been a common item in most households in the 19th century and up the mid 20th century. Not many of the bathroom sets, however, would have been as fine and as attractive as this one as this one would have belonged to a family with some wealth. Bathroom sets went out of common use once houses were sewered or had septic tanks and toilets and bathrooms were constructed inside the main house building. This set is of interest as an example of a common household item in houses 100 years ago or more. It will be useful for display.This is a five-piece china bathroom/ toilet set. The five pieces that comprise the set have a white background with a floral pattern in sage green monochrome with roses, carnations, sweet pea and dianthus. In the pattern are also tendrils and foliage. The jug is an elongated oval shape with a decorated handle. The interior of the lip is chipped. The circular bowl has an indented ridge at the top with interior and exterior decoration. The bowl is partly discoloured and there is some crazing. The toothbrush holder has a vase-like shape with an indented rim with fluting on the top. The chamber pot is circular with a decorated handle and one crack. The soap holder is circular and has three parts – the circular decorated base, the inset piece with a fluted edge and one large and six small holes for draining, and the decorated lid which is also fluted around the edge. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents proposals put forward by Bob Hymans to develop facilities in the Falls Creek Tourist Area.A brief note to the Management Committee accompanying plans to extend the chalet. This photograph shows Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Sister Meissen observing Mrs Lata as she transferred from her wheelchair onto a shower chair in the bathroom at her home. Sr. Meissen is based at the RDNS Moorabbin Centre. Patients were taught, and then supervised, by RDNS visiting Sisters in the use of safe transferring techniques. From the founding of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS) in 1885, known as the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), from 1966, their Trained nurses cared for patients in their own homes who required to be taught safe transferring techniques, e.g. from bed to wheelchair or from chair to walking frame etc. Their family members also needed to learn safe transferring techniques to enable them to care for their loved ones. RDNS employed a Physiotherapist who taught staff the correct techniques, not only for safety of the patient, but to reduce physical strain on RDNS nursing staff and patient’s family members. Sisters carried out General Care to those patients unable to care to their own hygiene safely, and, working towards independence where possible, the Sisters taught them safe transferring techniques using equipment such rails, shower seats, and hand showers.On the right of this black and white photograph is Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Sister Meissen standing and observing Mrs. Lata in the bathroom of her home. This is a bathroom jug and could have been part of a set for bathroom use. It would have held mainly water, hot or cold. In the days before there were sinks with hot and cold running water in bathrooms, a jug such as this was an essential item and would have been in common use up to the first three decades of the 20th century. Today this item is more likely to be used as a vaseThis jug has no known local provenance and is kept as a memento of a household item in use 100 years ago. This is a large white china jug. The body of the jug is spherical or bulbous shaped, tapering to a smaller neck and a large lip. There is gold trim around the handle, the rim of the top opening, around the base and around the top part of the jug. The handle has a straight edge. The demonstration is being carried out in the bathroom at RDNS Headquarter, 452 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne. The Sisters are wearing their grey RDNS uniforms and red cardigans of that era. From the founding of the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS) in 1885, known as Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) from 1966, the rehabilitation of patients to insure they were able to live independently in their own homes was at the forefront of care given by their Trained nurses. As well as teaching and supervising the use of equipment, their Trained nurses taught them safe transfer techniques. These techniques were also taught to family members to enable them to care for their loved ones. RDNS at first held workshops given by a contracted private Physiotherapist before employing their own Physiotherapist in 1975 who taught staff the correct techniques, not only for safety of the patient, but to reduce physical strain on RDNS nursing staff and patient’s family members.
