Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist, widely known for his contributions to evolutionary biology. His theory that all species of life have descended from a common ancestor is now generally accepted and considered a fundamental concept in science. In a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace, he introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding. Attached to the worksheet notes is an item prepared by Alan Bradley for the Jan. 2003 issue of Fares Please! The first paragraph notes the visit to the premises, now a Bed & Breakfast known as "A Special Occasion". "Originally known as the “Old Ready Homestead” the house was built in the 1890’s and was surrounded by a larger parcel of land that at least included the lot next door (No 90) and possibly extended as far as the Church property. This area was the scene of many garden parties and Wedding parties and contained a large water fountain. The property remained in the Ready family until sometime after the death of Mabel Ready in 1967." Brian was born in Ayr on the West Coast of Scotland. Brian lived in Mernda Street Sunshine West. Brian was an artist who painted in water colours. His paintings won prizes at the Royal Melbourne Show, Sunbury Show, Bacchas Marsh Show and at the Ballarat Society of Artists Awards. Brian became good friends of John Willaton, a S&DHS member and former City of Sunshine Town Clerk. During a trip to Scotland by John & his wife Dorothy to research Dorothy's family tree, the pair stayed at Brian's brother's in-law Bed & Breakfast accommodation.
