Printed obituary with black and white photo of Edward Clarence Dyason. He was born in Bendigo in 1886, the son of Isaac Dyason who was the financial and property manager for George Lansell. After World Was 2, he settled in England. He represented Australia at the British Commonwealth Relations Conference in Canada, on the way back to England he died at sea on 3 October 1949. Eight page handwritten document with details of the Carlisle United Gold Mine at Long Gully. The lease was 76 acres, 660 yards on line of reef. The Kent shaft was the next mine north Havilah Road, Boldt Street's corner. 'The Carlisle United was formed by the amalgamation of ttte companies, the Old Carlisle, the North Garden and the Passby. These mines were situated on the west side of Bennett Street in about a length of a few hundred feet, with the Passby on the Casley Street corner. And the old Carlisle and North Garden only recently being unearthed beneath the Unity, 'Carlisle' sand heap.' Details about the mining plant, the main shaft, the winding engine air compressor, stone crusher, and engine house are given. The Kent shaft and steel poppet legs are described. This company was registered in May 1871. It amalgamated the Adventure, Advance and Try-me-well mines to mine below the 300 foot levels of these mines.Collection of Government Gazette and newspaper articles relating to the 'Adventure and Advance Amalgamated Quartz Mining Company' on the Victoria Reef, Sandhurst. . Papers include the registration notice of the Mine in 1871, detailing the shareholders. Half yearly meeting reports 1872 - 1880 are attached. Slip of paper attached to each item describes the content, for example 'Half yearly meeting reports of the Adventure and Advance Company as published in the Bendigo Advertiser from 30.1.1872 - 31.8.1880. In 1917 Bendigo Amalgamated Goldfield Ltd was formed from the amalgamation of 35 companies with operations on the Garden Gully, Sheepshead, Deborah and Derby lines of reef hoping to increase profits of these existing operations through economies of scale. This was difficult to achieve as the shafts involved were spread throughout the goldfield. Diamond drilling and good geological practices were introduced (Pabst was Chief Geologist) leading to some exploration success. However costs were rising rapidly and in 1923 the directors, deciding that mining would soon become unprofitable, dissolved the company returning assets to the original vendors. J.H. Lenten, Mine Manager, received his second class Mine Manager's certificate in September, 1914 at an examination held at the Bendigo Law Courts. One hundred pages of fortnightly manager's reports for Bendigo Amalgamated Goldfields N.L., Sheepshead Shaft. Reports consist of two pages for each fortnight, signed by J.H. Lenten, Mine Manager. Dates of reports range from November 20th, 1917 to 5th May 1920. Document dated 28th April 1865 "All that the amalgamated alluvial claim at Pottery Flat aforesaid registered Number 881 in the Books of the Mining Register for the Mining District of Sandhurst known as the Royal Oak Company's claim." Listed in "The Bendigo goldfield registry" 1872 as Royal Oak Company: Bignell's Reef, Derwent Gully. Capital £24000., in £24,000 20s. shares. Manager, W. Barker. Newspaper articles dating from 11 Jan 1867 refer to the company as "Royal Oak Mining Company". Both names appear to be used interchangeably. This A3 document is made up of 3 pieces of heavy stock lined paper. The document is bound on the left side with glue and string creating a book which comprises the legal contract of mortgage for mining equipment. The document is handwritten in black ink across 4 pages (2 double sided pages) with the last page acting as the documents cover when folded down into a pamphlet. The signature page includes 9 red wax seals. When held up to the light, the cover page and internal page show an indentation reading G. Wilmot 1862.
