Photocopies of five newspaper cuttings from 11/5/1988 to 20/6/1990 mentioning the German Society by Bendigo Advertiser writer Maurie McDonald. Mentioned are German Society plans memorial to its pioneers, German contribution to Bendigo, German dinner an outstanding success, German settlers established vineyards in the district and German Society plans to remember its pioneers. One cutting has a photo of an ornate bookcase which was made for a Miss Pike. It was the work of a German tradesman, Mr C Nagle. Another has a sketch? Of the Brache & Co Weroona Vineyard, Sandhurst. It also mentions a number of early vineyards. Item 19. Cream silk scarf. Material sewn double. One end has an embroidered airman's wings in cream and light blue, In the centre of the wings is a red, white and blue bull's eye and over the bull's eye is a brown kangaroo. Below the bull's eye is a pale yellow boomerang shaped area with 'Fighter 81 Wing' embroidered in it. Underneath it all is embroidered 'Hofu - Japan 1946'. At the other end are some embroidered flowers and leaves. The leaves are pale grey and cream and the flowers are three shades of pink. One pink flower has a cream edge and one flower is cream. Item 15. Black Gentleman's Smoking Cap with stitched green leaves and blue flowers around the top and sides. The top of the crown has a pale blue crocheted dome 3.7cm wide and 18mm high. From under the dome is a plaited crochet thread which ends in a long tassel. Single newspaper clipping relating to Bendigo German Society donating an early 1900's bookcase made by Mr. C. Nagle. Nagle, of German origins, originally made the bookcase for one Miss Pike, a daughter of prominent Bendigo businessman whose business was situated at what was known as Pike's corner, Bendigo.
