Macartney, in his book had this to say:- ''The Masonic Hall is by far the grandest building in Sandhurst (Bendigo), and a fitting and right noble home for such an Order to place their ark in. The building is one on the pure Corinthian order, lofty without, and spacious within; therein is the finest Assembly Hall out of Melbourne Town Hall. What an imposing façade, with its tapering columns rearing the graceful acanthus-leaf capitals 40 feet. . . . With the growth of Freemasonry in Bendigo, new Craft Lodges were established, as were lodges of higher degrees. At present the following lodges use the Temple and hall facilities:- Golden & Corinthian Lodge No. 7. Zenith Lodge, No. 52. Sanhurst Lodge, No. 194. Corona Lodge No. 195. Born Edith Marie Bishop in 1907, Edith Lunn documented sweeping social and technological changes from the early to late 20th century. An honorary member of the Bendigo Tourist Authority and member of the Friends of Bendigo Cemetery, Edith had a keen and passionate interest in Bendigo’s history. She wrote on local history for the 'Bendigo Advertiser' and her passion for local history was further reflected in the publication of her book 'Snippets of Bendigo's History'. Edith died in April 2009, at the age of 101. Nine page collection of articles on Bendigo's streetscapes, written by Edith Lunn. 1. 'Memories of View Street', two pages, describes the businesses 'which flourished from Barnard Street to View Point. 2. 'More about View Street', two pages, outlines the businesses between Rowan and Mackenzie Streets. 3. ' The Last Block in View Street', twelve pages, describes the businesses from Mackenzie Street to View Point. Also mentioned is Carey's garage on Mackenzie Street. 4. In 1889 the three central fire brigades of Bendigo were amalgamated and a new fire station was erected in View Street (the third to be built on this site). This two storied brick building designed by Wm. Beebe forms an integral past of the View Street landscape. The red brick, white plaster relief trimmings and window frames with greenish lead-light decoration, all reflect the late Victorian style of the building. The ground floor contained an engine station and call room with stalls to accomodate three horses immediately behind.
