The trophy is affectionately known as "Sam's Bowl". At one stage it was noted that the trophy did not have a name, and it was suggested that it be named after the Tedstone's dog Sam. It appears to be music for Australians sailing away to war. Words and music by Ella Denmead (Copyright). Sung by Pte Frank Burns.This is a large sheet of heavy duty paper, folded once to form a sort of booklet. The front cover is blue. The writing shows as white on the blue background. In the centre is a drawing of a steam ship sailing to the horizon. The ship shows two funnels. A cannon on the quarter deck and 4 twin A.A. guns can be seen in the image. There are figures on the stern. In the bottom left is a jetty with vague figures crowded on it. Front right corner shows a black and white portrait of an Australian Soldier. The first factory manufactured chairs date to c1850. With a foot rest in 1878 and with a mechanically raised and lowered chair. Chairs have an adjustable height with foot operated jack or hand operated lever on the side. The chair can also rotate, or lean backwards (for hair washing and shaving) and has a head rest .Old Barber's chairs are made from metal and leather and are heavy. Mt Beauty township had a Barber's business during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and beyond. ""Sam The Barber" was an original Kiewa character. Probably for 45 years cut the hair of thousands of Kiewa workers with his scissors, hand clippers and cut throat razor." Ref. online: "The Mt Beauty & Murray connection"Brown leather padded seat, back rest, headrest and armrest. At the front of the arm rest is a wooden section (maybe for a cuppa?). The chair has a steel frame and foot rest. There is a large white enamel disc under the seat and a white enamel stand with a steel perimeter. Pickwick Clubs were established around the world in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, inspired by the first novel of Charles Dickens. A Kew branch was formed in 1897 and lasted until c.1912. Its membership was drawn from a number of notable Kew families. The club published two booklets, the first in 1904 and the second in 1912. In addition to holding meetings, club members performed in productions of Shakespearian plays in the Recreation Hall in Wellington Street Kew. Members of the club adopted pseudonyms based on characters in Dickens' novels.Literary publication of of artistic (literary) significance recording the social and cultural activities of a group of residents of Kew and its environs that operated from 1897 to c.1912.
