Operation Broken Hill was by the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), in June 1967 near Binh Ba within the Phuoc Tuy Province of South Vietnam. It involved search-and-clear missions during which Australian troops detained several Vietnamese civilians for questioning and secured areas of the province. The 8th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (8 RAR) was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation. This unit citation was awarded by the former Government of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) to military units that distinguished themselves in battle.
