He worked as Electrician at the GPO and lived at 180 High St.Kilda and joined the Australian Imperial Force, Australian flying Corps on 26/6/1917. Service No, 2320. Rank,.Air Mechanic 2nd Class. Roll Title Flying Corps Conflict Operation, First World War 1914-1918. Mr Benville Departed Melbourne on HMAT Port Sydney A15 on 9/11/1917. He was Married to Mrs Emily Madge Benville when he enlisted in Australia. Mrs Benville died on 10th July 1947. The Hatpin is a musical directed by Kim Durban and performed by the 2009 Graduating Third Year Musical Theatre Students. Musical direction by Peter Rutherford. Book and Lyrics by James Millar. Musical Staging - David Wynen; Set Design - Adam (Gus) Powers; Costume Design -Melanie Liertz; Lighting Design - Bronwyn Pringle. "The Hatpin was inspired by the true story of a single mother who advertised her baby in a newspaper trading column in the hope of saving his life... and ended up embroiled in one of the most captivating, moving and exciting criminal cases in Australian history." The musical is set in Sydney, 1892 on the brink of winter. The musical had its premiere in Sydney and New York in 2008 and this production was the Victorian premiere. .1 Original Poster advertising a musical. Two thirds of the poster is white and red print and one third is a photo of half a face . The eye colour is brown. .2 The musical's program. An eight page pamphlet with the front page similar to the poster except the photograph is on the top half of the page and writing underneath. The "letters to Lillie" show the international nature of the Mission to Seafarers. They are an important display of the handwriting style of the time, revealing courting attempts and give us an insight into life in 1925.Lillie Duncan was a member of the Harbour Lights Guild and this letter forms part of a collection of letters sent to her by different seafarers.Letter addressed to Miss L Duncan, 11 Paxton St, East Malvern, Melbourne, Australia from Howard in four parts: Part 1.1 (0008.1) Envelope Part 1.2 (0008.2) First page of letter Part 1.3 (0008.3) Second page of letter Part 1.4 (0008.4) Third page of letter The envelope is blue grey in colour whilst the pages are creamy yellow in colour. Page 1 of the letter begins with the salutation "My dear Lillie, here comes the promised letter...". Page 2 of the letter begins with "...in her birthday book". Page 3 of the letter concludes with "...yours Joe".The envelope is torn across the top for access to its contents. It has two stamps, a circular one in black ink towards the top left of the envelope reading "Durban, 2, May 21, 5.45AM, 1925", and a rectangular one coloured red and white reading "Union of South Africa, Postage, 2d" on the left-hand side of the circle and the right-hand side circle seems to say the same in South African perhaps. It is obscured by 6 large ink lines covering the top portion of the envelope from left to right. Within the circle is a mans head showing his left side profile. He has a beard and short hair. This play was first written by Richard Brome, c1630 and takes a cynical view of greed and money. Kim Durban has chosen to set the play in 'a fictional present , loosely influenced by pop music, glam rock, the 70's and the world of the backstage pass.' There was a Ballarat Season and a Melbourne Season. Metamorphoses is a Latin poem by the Roman poet Ovid. The poem chronicles the history of the world from its creation to Julius Caesar's deification. While change is the central theme the poem also explores related concepts such as art, friendship, war and love. This is the program for a University of Ballarat Performing Arts presentation of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, in 2006, performed by third year Graduate Bachelor of Arts (Acting) students. Director: Kim Durban; Design: John Bennett, Loris Button, Dan Cooling; Lighting Design: Michele Preshaw. The venue was Post Office Box Theatre, Camp Street Ballarat. Dates: June 14 16 at 8pm; June 17 at 2pm and 8pm and June 18th at 5pm. Kim Durban initially trained as a teacher in South Australia, then as a director at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne.In 1990 Kim was awarded the Ewa Czajor Memorial Award for study in Europe. She was the recipient of an Australia Council Training Artistic Directors grant , working Artisiic Associate at Playbox 1994-95. During her Masters studies she received the Yvonne Taylor Award for Directors. In 2001 , Kim was appointed Senior Lecturer in Performing Arts at the University of Ballarat where her productions have included The White Rose, Sweet Charity, 42nd Street, Chekhov in Black and White, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Night Before The Day After Tomorrow, Kiss Me Kate, All's Well That Ends Well, Richard the Third and On the Town. Synopsis: Sebastian and Viola are twins who are shipwrecked. Separately they find their way to the land of Illyria, both believing that the other had perished. Viola dresses herself as a boy (called Cesario) and enters the service of Count Orsino who asks 'him' to woo Olivia on his behalf. However Olivia falls for Cesario who has fallen in love with Orsino. A subplot involves two drunken knights, Sir Toby and Sir Andrew, a self important steward, Malvolio, a clown , a forged letter and a pair of yellow stockings. The play 'Kiss Me Kate' tells the tale of two once married, now divorced theatre actors Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi who are performing opposite each other in a Broadway-bound musical version of William Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew'. An all-out war erupts when Lilli discovers Fred has sent her wedding bouquet to his latest fling Lois, who plays Bianca in "the Taming of the Shrew'. The show must go on so that Lois' steady boyfriend Bill (in the show as Lucentio) who has signed an IOU with Fred's name can pay back gambling money he owes to gangsters. In classic musical comedy fashion madness ensues and both pairs of lovers are reconciled. Presented by University of Ballarat Arts Academy.
