The core memory of this calculator was a #D metal box. The pin must have been attached to a card reader or keyboard to enter the programme. According to Sharp’s serial numbering scheme, which encodes the month and year of manufacture of their electronic calculators at least through the mid-1970’s, this calculator was manufactured in September 1969. The technology used in the Memorizer 30/Memorizer 60 was very typical of that of the late 1960s, with small-scale integrated circuits containing a few gates or flip-flops, and a magnetic core memory array for storing the program steps that the user keyed in using the calculator attached to the device. The Model CSA-12, called the "Memorizer 60", was an accessory that could be connected to a Sharp Compet 22 or Compet 32 electronic calculator to allow these machines to be "learn mode" programmed. Programs were "learned" from the keyboard of the calculator, and stored within a core memory array in the Memorizer 60. Programs of up to 60 steps could be stored. The Memorizer 60 could them "play back" the stored steps at high speed, to allow relatively complex math operations to be performed. The logarithmic slide rule is a compact device for rapidly performing calculations with limited accuracy. Used before the invention of electronic calculators, mechanical adding machines were most often used for long calculations. This calculator was used in the Ballarat School of Mines Physics Department. Addition and subtraction were perfomed by turning the larger side mounted crank forward or backward. the smaller crank lever zeros the two registers. Two buttons are provided to set the machine either to clear the number entry with each revolution of the crank or to repeat the entry. J. Mann and Sons was first established as a farm produce store in 1921. The range of products was extended in the 1930s and included groceries and hardware, as well as the first petrol bowser in Wodonga outside the store. After WWII, the premises were extended and the range of products continued to increase. In the 1960s the Mann Family opened a new supermarket in Wodonga, in addition to the hardware business, providing steel, plumbing and industrial supplies, and they employed over 100 people at one stage. With changes in the retail industry, the Mann Family sold the main hardware business to Bunnings and the steel and rural produce business to the Kelly brothers in 2006. George Lee Lawrence (1901–1976) established a firm in Chicago to make slide rules for photography. In 1935 he moved to Wabash, Ind., renamed the company Lawrence Engineering Service, and began to manufacture general purpose slide rules. In 1938 he relocated once more to Peru, Ind., and in 1947 it was changed to Engineering Instruments, Inc., and the company remained in business until its building burned down in 1967. The model 10-B sold for 25 cents during this period.
