Items for sale included home made food items like relish and jams, and craft items. Legacy House held craft lessons throughout the year and often the items made were sold at the fetes or at a stall outside Legacy House during Legacy Week for fundraising. The lady second from left is Vera Lang who was on the Widows committee for many years. It is likely to be 1988 due to the photographers reference number meaning 17 November 1988 (ref no. 881117). Badge made to promote fete held at Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College in 1922. According to the school history 'The lamp burns brightly' a special committee of the school ouncil were appointed to organise a great fete in August 1922 to raise money towards the purchase of new property in Webster/Mair Streets. "The Oriental Fair transformed the Ballarat City Hall for three consecutive days. Stalls of many types were heavily laded, and, as one reveller commented, 'The perpetual motion of the fairty floss machine, producing its quaint confection, was an object of interest and wonderment to many, and the crack of the pea rifle in the adjoining shooting gallery almost dispersed the feathery flakes of fairy floss as they issued from the magic machine'. An arochestra provided continuous music, varied at times by vocal solos, eurythmic displays and other enterainments. the fair raised the remarkable sum of 1,576 pounds." The history of Marlo dates back to the days when ships voyaged between Melbourne and Lakes Entrance. Attempts were made to use the Snowy River for trading purposes but the bar at Marlo proved too dangerous. The school opened on 3rd of July 1903 with the HT Walter Scott. At present Marlo is noted for fishing and tourism. The fete, held each Easter, is a major fundraiser for the school and all money goes towards sustaining the schools Music ProgramThe Marlo Fete is a significant yearly event in the local community. A cake decorated to look like the Shrine of Remembrance. The event is the annual Fete in 1993. The cake was entered into the Melbourne Show and shows a lot of skill. It was used as a raffle prize at the 1993 fete held at Legacy House (see the article from The Answer). The article says: The 31st annual Club Fete was held at Legacy House and a highlight of the event was a raffle to win a spectacular cake depicting the Shrine of Remembrance. The cake, made by Mrs Audrey McMaster (friend of a former Junior Legatee) was a 1993 prize-winning cake at the Royal Melbourne Show.
