Gold framed item. Written inside ' Silver Medal presented to wine maker Joachim Kahland, Sandhurst. From the Estate of Freida Kahland, late of King Street, Bendigo, these medallions were presented to the Society by the executor Mr. A. Lienhop on 22 May 1989. The Kahland cellars situated in King Street, Bendigo, were noted among the cleanest, driest and well kept cellars in the district and his wines were equally famous winning many local, national and overseas awards. Fine white cotton, embroidered cotton. Cap type shoulder/sleeve.Totally embroidered. Yoke has Vshaped panel of finely embroidered cotton, edged with a cotton panel, edged in fine embroidery. These strips are repeated down the long organdie skirt. A deep panel of embroidered cotton organdie type fabric reaches from the hemline to the yoke. Handsewn, extremely fine seams. Mauve and white abstract patterned, silk shirt maker styled dress. Extended shoulder to form elbow length sleeves. Triangular gusset at underarm. Large revere collar, which extends into a cross-over type front (no visible fasteners). Self fabric belt with covered buckle and loops. Five knife pleats at front-facing to centre front, on each side of front. Four knife pleats each side of centre back. Zip placket at left hand side. Clothing. Bright green cotton wedding dress with small lined pattern on fabric. Long sleeves. Floor length skirt.Fitted bodice with front opening with eleven hooks and eyes. Front opening on skirt with three hooks and eyes. Gathers at centre back of skirt. Large decorative bow at centre back of skirt. Sleeves and bodice have black velvet ribbon and black lace trim at back and front. Black velvet ribbon trim around hemline. Broiderie lace edge around neckline.Estate of Frieda Kahland, born 1891 died 1988 in Bendigo. Parents --Johann Detlef and Elizabeth Sarah Fly. Johann was a well known wine and cordial maker. Black silk-satin machine stitched dress. Dropped waist with bans 3.5 cm wide across front. Pleat from neckline to dropped waist, 2.5 cm wide and fastened down by four groupings of two one cm diameter buttons, mauve in colour. Four rows of narrow pin tucks each side of centre front and one tuck one cm wide on outer side of pintucks. Six press stud fasteners concealed under left hand tuck. Fold down collar, with two silk embroidered flowers appliquéd at collar fronts. Three quarter length sleeves slit at lower edge, and trimmed with two mauve buttons and two silk flowers appliquéd at each lower edge. Photocopies of five newspaper cuttings from 11/5/1988 to 20/6/1990 mentioning the German Society by Bendigo Advertiser writer Maurie McDonald. Mentioned are German Society plans memorial to its pioneers, German contribution to Bendigo, German dinner an outstanding success, German settlers established vineyards in the district and German Society plans to remember its pioneers. One cutting has a photo of an ornate bookcase which was made for a Miss Pike. It was the work of a German tradesman, Mr C Nagle. Another has a sketch? Of the Brache & Co Weroona Vineyard, Sandhurst. It also mentions a number of early vineyards.
