Provides a short history of Ballarat, the construction and operation of the horse tram system, the take over and construction of the electric tramways by the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria, and operation of horse tram trailers. Includes the takeover by the SEC, replacement tramcars, Lydiard St Nth extension, exchange of cars with Bendigo, Geelong, attempts to close the system and operations during the mid 1960s.Yields information about the history of Ballarat Tramways written in 1964. Framed set of 17 No. 60mm x 38mm black and white photographs (see 588 - 604) showing arrival of new trams ex Melbourne in 1930, construction of Lydiard St North track relaying in Ballarat during 1937, opening of Lydiard St. extension in 1937 and two Geelong trams in 1937. Mounted on a white cardboard based with captions written under photos in brown ink, red ink underline contained within a brown stained wooden frame with glass front and cardboard backing sheet, held with small nails. For photo of opening of Lydiard St. Nth extension, has a piece of tape over date, corrected from 28-9-37 to 30-8-37. Also in pencil on rear of frame. Newspaper clipping contained within Reg. Item 2488, pages 105, titled "Cutting the Ribbon" of Ballaarat Mayor, Cr J. Pryor cutting the ribbon to the open the extension of Lydiard St. North from Gregory St to Norman St or the New Cemetery. Notes the colour of the ribbon, the scissors and the Cr Pryor drove the tram over the extension. Features SEC No. 32 with flags and the SEC Logo over the headlight.
