Eventually a tender was accepted from Crawford Brothers, Bath Hotel, Sandhurst, for 2745 pounds, for the erection of the new building with an extra 50 pound for white brick facings. Long Gully Primary School (No. 2120) was designed by Henry Bastow and opened in 1879. It was built on the site of the former Long Gully Common School (no.372) that had closed in 1867.
