Joseph Sternberg MLC travelled to Melbourne to arrange a deputation with the Minister of Mines to discuss the flooding of the New Chum line of reef. Pumping was mentioned but it would be expensive and would take time and the water would keep rising. They would also have to find a suitable pumping plant. The New Chum Drainage Association had kept the water under control.
