This publication is one of those inserts. The letter is in response to Robin Boyd's request for help with work of the Melbourne University School of Architecture. It contains the opening address of Thomas Rowe, President of the Institute of Architects and information on the Institute of Architects NSW (not in Boyd's papers) and on the history of the establishment of The Royal Australian Institute of Architects. In 2003, the then RAIA established the National 25 Year Award. The Boyd House II at 290 Walsh Street won the award in 2006. Boyd proposes that the architect can play an important role in the community, engaging through: 1. his own work; 2. in voluntary professional activity in the RAIA; and 3. in private community activity, eg giving advice to charities and giving public talks.
