Shows an aerial view looking west over the Flinders St railway yards and the city skyline. Photo shows the Swimming centre in Batman Ave, the Victorian Railways Metrol signal control building and the large yard with Tait, Harris and a silver train. On the left is the overhead wiring train A goods train lead by a flat top T class is passing in the lower part of the photo. A collection of 3 photographs with a page of notes on the West family. Solomon West and his brother John became pioneer settlers on Phillip Island. Solomon married Elizabeth Bryant in 1857 at St Andres Church of England, Brighton. Elizabeth died in 1895 on Phillip island and is buried in the Phillip Island cemetery. Archie was the son of William and Jane West who died tragically in the Bendigo rail yards at the age of 21. Jane was buried in the same grave in Bendigo. Nellie, William and Jane's 2nd child married Harry Alexander Brown and are buried in the same grave together with Nellie's father, William West.355-01: Coloured photograph of the grave and headston of Solomon West in the Bendigo Cemetry. 355-02: Coloured photograph of the headstone of Archie S. Bendigo first commenced tramway operation in 1890 using battery trams. These were not successful.
