This journal provides the reader with glimpses of the adventures and hardships of a seaman's life. Many of the stories are of sailing ships. PS Etona was built in 1898 at Milang, South Australia as a missionary church steamer for the Church of England. The Etona's run was from Mannum, South Australia, where she was based up to Renmark. As churches were built in river tower she was no longer required and in 1912 she was sold to Captain Arch Conner who used her as a fishing steamer at Boundary Bend for many years. She was brought out of retirement during the 1956 floods to do trips up the Murrumbidgee River. She was eventually bought by interest in Echuca and restoration was commenced in 1962. The Etona, now fully restored with her original steam engine can now be seen moored along side the historic wharf at Echuca.Contributes to our knowledge of the importance of shipping and places on record those stories of the sea which would otherwise be lost.Contents Foreword - G. This photograph was probably sent to be used for advertising purposes to the mission. Here is the program of the tour published in the Age on Saturday 22 November 1952, page 16: "Australia's 15 stations of the world-famous Missions to Seamen are being visited by the general superintendent of the parent body in London, Rev. C. J. Brown, and. Mrs. Brown, who will arrive from Adelaide today. This is the first visit of the world head of the organisation to this country. Mr; Brown will attend the triennial Australasian chaplains' conference at the Central Club, Flinders-street Extension, next month. A full programme will include visits to the three clubs at Central. Port Melbourne and Williamstown, and to Geelong and Balla-rat, a tour of the Bay, an inspection of the work of a sister organisation, the British Sailors' Society, Geelong, and then on , to Geelong Grammar School. Mr. and Mrs. Brown will be the guests of the Governor and Lady Brooks at lunch at Government House tomorrow, and of the Lord Mayor at a reception on Tuesday. On Friday afternoon Archbishop and Mrs. Booth will hold a reception at Bishopscourt to enable the visitors to meet heads of the churches. Mr. Brown will preach at St. Paul's Cathedral tomorrow morning, and at St. Peter's Mariners' Church at 7 p.m. On December 7 he will preach, at Ballarat Cathedral, afterwards meeting workers of the Missions to. Seamen. He will address a Rotarians' luncheon on Wednesday. On Thursday evening he will meet the Company of Master Mariners. At a reception by the chairman of the Harbor Trust (Mr. A. D. Typed letter to R. J. Bartle, Esq., from D. O'Connor, Engineer and ?, Chief Engineer, of the National Roads and Motorists Association (N.S.W.) dated November 8, 1936. Letter mentions four tests done in a car over a stretch of ground to measure fuel consumption. Tests were done with and without the device installed in the fuel system. School Correspondence to BHS re Joseph & Mary Cadogen and school at Spring Gully - information supplied to writer (Mr Willliams, Schofield NSW) 1971 re the school.. Location: First record available dates from the beginning of 1856. It is the Denominational School Board record from the Rev. J. D. Brennan of the Church of England. The record reads: School was conducted by Joseph Cadogen in the church hall which was used as a Sunday School of the wesleyan Chapel about the beginning of 1856. Records of the 1857 show that the weatherboard building - with a canvas roof and wooden floor , cost £100(pounds). Head teacher was Mr. J. Cadogen who was assisted by Elizabeth Hunt, (January-March), Jane Greenehame (april-May, and Mary Cadogen.
