The turntable is a multi-play turntable originally found in mid-century console stereos. The turntable was superseded by CDs (compact discs) in the 1980s and, in the 21st century, by streaming music. In recent years, there has been a resurgence in the popularity of turntables driven by a desire for analog sound quality and the tactile experience of physical media. The LP (long playing record) was first invented in 1948 and resulted in an explosion of album-based music. The 78 rpm shellac discs, which were in operation up until that time, could hold barely four minutes of music per side compared to the LP's capacity of 23 minutes of music per side. The record player and the LP are 20th century technologies which are enjoying a new wave of popularity.1, Garrard Ferguson 2025TC turntable 2. It was held by the ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen of Victoria and the War Bereaved. Legacy played a part. A Legacy ward presented the Queen with a bouquet of flowers and the junior legatees performed for her by forming the letters 'E.R.' on the ground. This was organised by the instructors of the girls and boys classes including Miss Enez Domec Carre. It was the official commemorative document of the occasion. The Queen visited the MCG twice during her visit to Melbourne, once was this exservicemen rally when Legacy children attended, and a second time when it was for all school children. Pathe News footage of the ex-servicemen rally show a two legacy children presenting a posy (see photo above). The newspaper article for the children's rally said "Legacy wards Brenda Mutimer, 11, of Princes Hill Central school, presented a posy to the Queen and John Barker, 14, of Box Hill High school handed the Duke two Australian animal books for Prince Charles and Princess Anne." After the visit there was an Essay Competition and the winners were published in the newsletter. 1st for juniors was Rosemary Wilson, 1st for Intermediate was Beth Hudson, 2nd Intermediate was Marion CameronA record of Legacy being involved in the royal visit of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1954.Printed programme x 4 pages for the ex-servicemen event at the MCG for the Queen on 25th February 1954.royal visit, junior legatee outing -

H. Secombe, who also materially assisted the committee in the matter of finance. ...Kurting. Mechanics' Hall OFFICIAL OPENING. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Favored by beautiful weather, the official opening ot the new Mechanics' Hall erected at Kurting proved an entire success. There was a large attendance ol local and district residents, and a sports meeting held during the afternoon in aid of Red Cross funds resulted in a substantial amount being netted. The hall, which stands on ground generously donated by Mr J. Hogan, between the school and the creek, is a substantialyvconcrete building of pleasing design, and was erected at a cost of about £330 by Mr J. H. Secombe, who also materially assisted the committee in the matter of finance. It is 48ft. long by 24ft. wide, with 12ft, walls, and should prove equal to the needs of the district for many years to come. It is well ventilated, and has large windows, these opening outwards on hinges. Doors at each side, and the back, as well as in front, give free means of access, while a fireplace in the back allows of provision being made for supper arrangements, water being laid on from a tank. Provi sion has been made for the partitioning off ot portion of the hall at any time this may be considered desirable. To provide a stage eight tables of a uniform size have been constructed to fit across the width of the hall. By these it will be possible, when euchre parties are being held, to use the full length of the hall. ... (Inglewod Advertiser, 19 July 1918) and also to convert tiie "stage" into card tables. The committee still has work ahead in the provision of a ceiling for the building and seating accomodation, but there is no doubt that the public support accorded them will be sufficient to enable these matters to be dealt with in the near future. A fine floor has been put down.Photographs of the former Kurting Hall, Victoria.kurting, kurting hall, john hogan, kurting mechanics' institute -
