The women wearing sleeveless dresses with large white collars, a white cap and aprons with the Monkey Brand logos and carrying a Monkey Brand placard. The photo was taken at the Bendigo Town Hall in the 1920's. It represented an advertisement for 'Monkey Brand Soap'. The Monkey heads were loaned from Lever Bros for the occasion. The names are: Jean Dean, Joe Borrell, John Borell, F. Donaldson, A. The top one is a picture of a Double Set of 8 couples featuring The Co-Operative Coupon Co. They are all wearing evening wear. The ladies have sashes and the Co-Operative logos on their gowns. The bottom photo is four ladies in evening dress. On the bottoms of their gowns, two have Allans, one has pianos and the other has Music. All are holding a staff? With ribbons on them. All are wearing dark hats with Allans on them and a dark ribbon with a medal around the tops of their bodices. Under this photo is Allans Music and Pianos, The Leader Sept 8th, 1900. He was born on 16 July 1914 and was largely self-educated, leaving school at fourteen for work following the death of his father. Gartner developed a strong interest in the history of typography and printing and was apprenticed at the Advocate where his father had been a linotype operator. Aged 17, Gartner bought a hand press and some fonts of type, and in 1937 acquired a platen press from which he set and printed his private press books, published under the imprint of The Hawthorn Press. Gartner had a strong collection of Australian bookplates. He also looked at the work of artists overseas and commissioned personal plates. He subsequently built an international collection with preference for artists who printed from wood. It was manufactured by the Sutex company, which had multiple manufacturing locations in Victoria - including Inglewood and Bendigo. This item belonged to a member of the Nobelius family and is a identifiable example of 1940s clothing. Clothing Elaine Nobelius Nobelius Family 1940s Tag: "Sutex / LUXURY LINGERIE / Satinswade / O.S" This item is a set ...This item was likely owned by Elaine Morris (then Nobelius) as a teenager, some time in the late 1940s. This is corroborated by the existence of advertising for this specific product from 1949, and its likely contemporaneity with VEMU2293 which has adverting from a similar time period. It was found in a Monkey Pyjama Case (VEMU2288) that belonged to Elaine, alongside several other items of clothing (VEMU2293-5). It was manufactured by the Sutex company, which had multiple manufacturing locations in Victoria - including Inglewood and Bendigo.This item belonged to a member of the Nobelius family and is a identifiable example of 1940s clothing.This item is a set of Sutex "Satinswade Pantees". The original advertisement describes them as follows: "Well cut, elastic at waist, cuff leg, in shades Peach and White. For excellent wearing." Seventy years later, this pair - the white version, though it now looks closer to cream - has suffered significant damage, with three large cuts from the waistline, significant staining, and holes from wear between the legs.
