Tram 756 ...Postcard - full colour, Divided back type of Swanston St looking North just before the Flinders St intersection, with Young and Jackson Hotel and many neon signs in the background. Tram 756 with destination of Moreland and Route 15 is in the view. Note the wood planks in between the rails at the stop, possibly at the time that the bridge over the rail lines was being rebuilt. Appears to have a The Met tram stop sign on the safety zone. Possibly late 1980's. Written mainly by Jacqui Macdonald Transport Reporter .1 - 11/2/1992 - "Police will investigate export of old trams" - details the export of trams to the US and whether the necessary permits were issued. Notes Gales Creek Enterprises, Paul class, Bill Hardwick, National Trust Chairman Don Gibson. .2 - 10/2/1992 - "Protected trams went to US without permits" - details the situation, also quotes David Clark and Michael Norbury (Hawthorn Tramways Trust), Alan Brown Opposition Transport Spokesman. Application had been made. Law changed in 1988. .3 - 21/7/1992 - "Police probe export of trams to the US'- quotes PTC spokesman Pat Wilson, does not believe it has broken the Law, gives details on the number of trams sold over years, quotes Alan Brown. .4 - 25/7/1992 - two items in the same cutting: (a) - "Delay will spoil tram sales says US buyer" written by Christopher Reed Los Angeles - quotes Paul Class, Alan Brown, details some of the cities the trams have been sold too. Also notes the trams in Werribee owned by Pat Keogh. (b) - :Historic trams rot as committees ponder their export" - with a photo of many trams and Pat Keogh - seems that they inadvertently owned them when the formal owner went bankrupt and owed them money. Yields information about the condition of the ESCo tram fleet at the time of the SEC takeover of the operations their appearance, the reconstruction work and trackwork to rehabilitate the system. Demonstrates an important era of the Ballarat Tramways through the SEC preparing an album of photographs. The completeness of the record adds to the significance.Photo Album - comprising folded manila card covers, 11 photo sheets each with two, one with three black and white photos. Has three metal - steel fold back clips holding the sheets together. Folded so that the metal clips are not exposed on the outside. Has the title "Photographs of Ballarat Tramways Rolling Stock & Track Reconditioning Works". Album contains 23 photos, glued to the manila sheets - assembled by the SEC. All SEC photos except as noted below. Each of the photographs have been separately registered, as shown in the table below. Scanned images made of photos. Conservation Notes prepared - within the cataloguing sheet. Inside cover Typed notes, dated 1935, of the early trams of Ballarat, trailers ex Sydney, new trams ex Melbourne in 1930, and a further 5 in 1931. Lists the original Brill trams still in service (9 Number), and a noted on the recent scrapping of No. 11. Also had a note re the Sebastopol cars and the timber quality used in their construction - see hi Res image btm3000h-cover.jpg (added 16-12-2015) Folio Reg.
